LSG is led by Indian batsman KL Rahul and mentored by Gautam Gambhir. Zimbabwean veteran player Andy Flower is the head coach of the team.
In IPL 2022, KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock opened for the team and they both had a great season. Rahul smashed 616 runs with an average of 51.33 and de Kock scored 508 runs at 36.28.
Deepak Hooda was one of the top players for the LSG side in the last season. With his all-round performance, he also got a call-up from the international side. He grabbed the opportunity and smashed a century against Ireland in T20Is and became 5th Indian to score a century in the format.
The pace attack is strong in LSG with the likes of Avesh Khan, Daniel Sams, Marcus Stoinis, Jaydev Unadkat, Romario Shepherd and Mark Wood. But the spin attack does not have many options other than Ravi Bishnoi, Krunal Pandya, Amit Mishra. All the other spin all-rounders cannot be counted as the full-time bowlers.
LSG roped in West Indies power-hitter Nicholas Pooran for an expensive bid of INR 16 crore. Among their other purchases, there is Aussie all-rounder Daniel Sams, Indian spinner Amit Mishra, West Indies pacer Romario Shepherd, Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, Indian pacer Jaydev Unadkat and some domestic players as well.
LSG has a destructive opening pair but they need to strengthen their middle-order where Nicholas Pooran will find a place.
KL Rahul: KL Rahul has been a consistent performer in the IPL. The LSG skipper smashed 616 runs in 15 matches in the last season. Overall he has scored 3889 runs in 109 IPL matches at an average of 48.01.
Avesh Khan: Avesh Khan was picked by LSG in the draft pick before the IPL 2022. He has been impressive in the last season’s performance, picking 18 wickets in 13 matches. He will be the key pacer for the team once again this season.
Quinton de Kock: Quinton and KL Rahul gave IPL one of the best opening pairs ever. He smashed 508 runs in 15 matches at an average of 36.28. De Kock has been part of the Mumbai Indians team for a long time until LSG roped him before the 2022 season.
Deepak Hooda: Deepak Hooda had one of his best IPL seasons with the LSG last year. He smashed 451 runs and proved to be a reliable middle-order batter. He also bowled 4 overs and picked a wicket as well.
