Lucknow Super Giants take on Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 54 of the 2024 Indian Premier League on Sunday evening. Lucknow have won six games this season and begin this fixture just two points behind KKR who occupy second place. Read on as we preview this match. After losing to Rajasthan Royals in Match 44, Lucknow Super Giants got back to winning ways against Mumbai Indians in their last match and they come into this game in strong form. However, they are up against one of the best sides in this IPL so far.
Kolkata Knight Riders won a rollercoaster of a contest in their last game which saw them deep in trouble on 57/5 before recovering to post 169 and then winning the match. They will need to be stronger with the bat in this match but their bowlers were brilliant in Friday’s victory.

Shreyas Iyer was in a very positive mood on Friday post-game after seeing his side win without playing at their best. With a quick turnaround of only two days before this match on Sunday, we are not expecting to see wholesale changes to the XI.

For Lucknow Super Giants, Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul are our batting picks. West Indian left-hander Pooran hit the winning runs against Mumbai Indians and is averaging 61 with a strike-rate of 160.52 so far in this campaign. Stoinis took the Player of the Match Award in the last game in Lucknow and six of his ten IPL scores of 50+ over the last two seasons.
Venkatesh Iyer, Phil Salt and Sunil Narine are our tips with the bat for KKR. Although he had a strong campaign, Narine has only made 8, 15 and 10 in three of his last four innings. Therefore, we expect to see him making a big contribution at the top of the order again in this game. Salt hit 89 not out from 47 balls in the last head to head with Lucknow Super Giants and took the Player of the Match Award.
With the ball, Ravi Bishnoi, Yash Thakur and Naveen-ul-Haq are our choices for Lucknow Super Giants. Afghan right-arm pacer Naveen dismissed Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai skipper, in the last match and finished with a brilliant economy rate of 3.91 from 3.5 overs. Bishnoi is still only 23 years old but he has already picked up 140 T20 wickets with best figures of 4/15.
Our recommendations are Mitchell Starc, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy with the ball for KKR. Not only does Australian Starc come into this match after a strong performance on Friday, but he also impressed in the last game against Lucknow when he took 3/28. Narine has been one of the leading all-rounders in the tournament and is yet to go wicketless in this campaign.
With both teams winning three of their last four, we can expect to see two teams full of confidence take the field in this match. They could well meet again in the play-offs later in the tournament so there are opportunities to put down a marker on Sunday evening. Our prediction is for a very competitive match but we are backing Kolkata Knight Riders, who have played to a slightly higher standard so far, to win this game.
