IPL New Rule

The biggest Cricket league - IPL is getting set to kick-off the 17th season in March-May 2024. IPL core committee is always looking forward to making the league more interesting every year by adding new rules or new elements. After the introduction of Impact Player Rule, there is a new rule set to be implemented from the upcoming season of the IPL.

Bowlers allowed 2 bouncers per over

With this new rule, the bowlers are now allowed to bowl a maximum of 2 bouncers per over which is an increase from the previous limit of 1 bouncer. The 2nd bouncer in an over is given a no-ball.

The new rule has been introduced in order to provide an added advantage to the bowling as it is often said that the batters have more advantage over the bowlers with the existing rules of cricket for example powerplay rule.

Impact of New Rule On The Game

The 2 bouncer rule is going to be quite helpful for the fast bowlers. It will give them an edge over the batters who will think that there will not be another bouncer after the first one.

This rule will help the pacers in the powerplay as well as in the death overs where yorker is the go-to delivery. Influx of bouncers towards the end of the innings can be dangerous for the batsmen as they only expect to be targeted at the feet or wide-yorkers.

The batters with a weakness for short-balls have to train more to play the bouncers.

Unadkat has his say on the New Rule

Indian fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat has reacted to the introduction of new rule in the IPL. Unadkat said, "I do feel two bouncers an over is very much useful, and I feel it's one of those things which gives the bowler an added advantage over batsmen, I feel it's a very small change with a huge impact and as a bowler I feel it's very important to have that rule."
