IPL 2024 Auction

The auction event for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League saw 72 players being picked by 10 franchise teams out of which 30 are overseas players. A total of INR 230.45 crores were spent to rope in all these players with some of the international players like Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins making record deals while some teams sweeping steal deals.

IPL Auction 2024 Date, Time and Venue

Much-awaited IPL Auction for the 2024 season took place in Dubai on 19th December, 2023. The Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai served as the venue for the IPL Auction 2024. This was the first ever Indian Premier League auction to take place outside of India. Last year the event was planned to take place in Istanbul but was finalized to take place in Kochi due to some reasons.

Who is the most expensive player in the IPL?

Australian pacer duo Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins made the headlines in the IPL auction after bagging in the top deals of the evening.

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders at a whopping INR 24.75 crore which made him the most expensive player in the history of IPL auction. Starc did not participate in the last edition of the league citing international commitments due to Ashes and ODI World Cup 2023.

Starc’s pacer teammate and Australian captain Pat Cummins bagged the 2nd biggest deal at INR 20.50 crore. Cummins is picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad to strengthen their bowling line-up and also to have an option in captaincy along with Aiden Markram.

Top News for IPL Auction 2024

There have been many top headliners before this year’s IPL auction and we can expect yet another event with some expected as well as unexpected twists and turns.

Hardik Pandya made the biggest headlines with his trade back to his first IPL franchise Mumbai Indians. In an all-cash deal of INR 15 crore (Pandya’s price in GT), Pandya will be back to the MI team where he has won 5 IPL titles. He has led Gujarat Titans to the title win in its debut season in 2022 and then finished as the runners-up in the 2023 season.

Some big names including Ben Stokes, Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood, Jofra Archer, Joe Root have also been released by their teams. Ben Stokes made himself unavailable for the IPL 2024 citing workload management after he will undergo a knee surgery. As a result, CSK released him to increase their purse limit.

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is becoming the talk of the town again after being traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore from Mumbai Indians. In the IPL auction 2023, He was bought for a whopping INR 17.5 crore by MI camp to fill the void left by Hardik Pandya. With that being solved after Pandya’s homecoming, MI does not need Green’s services anymore.

Rajasthan Royals has traded off batsman Devdutt Padikkal in exchange of Lucknow Super Giants’ pacer Avesh Khan.
