Cricket’s biggest T20 league, Indian Premier League is back for its 15th edition, set to kick-off on March 26th. The reigning champions Chennai Super Kings and runner-up Kolkata Knight Riders will lock horns in the 1st match of the IPL 2022.

The match will take place at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, which is one of the 4 venues selected to host the IPL this year.

This year IPL will witness new changes with inclusion of 2 new franchises and number of matches exceeding to 74 and the matches taking place in single state only for less travel.

Adding to the changes this year, there are also new rules to be added to the league from this year onwards.

New IPL Rules

  • BCCI has announced that from the 2022 season, the number of DRS reviews has been increased from one to two per innings.
  • They have also announced that in play-offs or finals, if the match ends in a tie and the Super Over ends in tie as well then no 2nd Super Over will follow. After the tie of the Super Over, the team which finished higher on the points table will be awarded with the win.
  • If any team is not able to field playing 11 in the ground then IPL will try to reschedule the match in the latter part of the season. If the rescheduling won’t be possible then the issue will be handed to the IPL Technical Committee.
  • Another interesting rule change says that in case of a catch dismissal. The non-striker will not face the next ball even if the batters have completed the half run before the catch was taken. Only the new batsman on the crease will face the next ball.

Note - This rule is not applied if the catch is taken on the last ball of the over.

IPL In India This Year

BCCI has earlier promised the fans that they will give their full efforts to host the IPL in India this year. As a result, IPL 2022 is set to take place in 4 venues out of which 3 are located in Mumbai and 1 in Pune.

IPL 2022 will see the addition of two new franchises - Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. Hardik Pandya will lead the Gujarat Titans while KL Rahul is set to captain the Lucknow Super Giants.
