Australian pacer Mitchell Starc has bagged the biggest IPL deal of all time at the IPL 2024 Auction event today. Kolkata Knight Rider shelled out a whopping INR 24.75 crore to rope in the fast bowler who has 16 wickets in 10 matches at the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023.
Mitchell Starc did not take part in the 2023 edition of the IPL to concentrate on preparing for the Ashes and the World Cup. He was the highest wicket taker in the Ashes 2023 with 23 wickets in 4 Tests and then finished the ODI World Cup 2023 with 16 wickets in 10 matches with an impressive economy of 6.06.
Mitchell Starc has played 27 IPL matches so far in his career in which he has picked 34 wickets at a strike rate of 17.06. He has been part of multiple IPL teams but has been able to play matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014 and 2015 season.
He has missed many of the IPL seasons due to injuries or international commitments but currently he looks in great touch. The teams were also keen on roping in Starc as he has recently played the World Cup on these Indian pitches and also has ample experience of playing here.
Just minutes before the staggering Starc deal, his teammate and Australian skipper Pat Cummins bagged a INR 20.50 crore from Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was celebrated as the most expensive player ever in the IPL history but was pushed down to the 2nd highest by Mitchell Starc.
Pat Cummins also had a brilliant year so far. He picked 18 wickets in 5 Tests in Ashes followed by 15 wickets in 11 matches in the World Cup.
Cummins’ led the Australian red-ball team to the Ashes series this year which ended in a tie and then he led the ODI team to the 6th ODI World Cup title which they won in India.
