Experienced coach Sanjay Bangar has been appointed by the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore to take over the head coach duties starting from IPL 2022 season. Bangar will take over the duties from Mike Hesson, who will take care of the Director of Cricket Operations role for the team.

In 2014, he became batting coach for the Indian team and continued his duties till 2019. He was the head coach of the Kings XI Punjab team (now Punjab Kings) in 2014 which was the team’s most successful season till now where they reached the final but lost to Kolkata Knight Riders and in 2016, he gave up the coaching duties for Kings. He also served as the batting coach of the former IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers.

Sanjay Bangar has played 15 ODIs and 12 Tests for the Indian team. He also played in the IPL with Deccan Chargers and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Bangar joined RCB team in IPL 2021 as a batting consultant and now he will take the head coach role from Hesson.

RCB Chairman Prathmesh Mishra said, “RCB has been committed to its philosophy of supporting and grooming talents from within the team and appointing Sanjay Bangar is the reflection of that belief. Sanjay Bangar has been part of our support staff as a batting consultant and brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and batting coach, having worked extensively with the Indian cricket team. Sanjay has been chosen to be the head coach following a rigorous and robust selection procedure.”

Royal Challengers Bangalore will be going through big changes from the next season of the IPL in 2022. Virat Kohli has given up captaincy duties after this year’s IPL and the team will be on a difficult hunt to find their new captain. RCB is one of the teams which has never won an IPL trophy till now, therefore, they have to make some really important changes keeping the future of the team in mind.
