In the latest development from Indian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Rohit Sharma as the new ODI captain. The abrupt sacking of Virat Kohli as the ODI captain has come with mixed feelings from the fans.

Some are supporting the decision of the shift in the captaincy while others are criticising the way the board made the sudden statement.

Earlier, Kohli stepped down from the T20I captaincy and Royal Challengers Bangalore captaincy which he announced himself before both IPL and T20 World Cup.

Virat Kohli’s captaincy records

Keeping the ICC events aside, Kohli is one of the captains with most success in terms of wins.

Under Kohli’s captaincy, India played 95 ODIs out of which it won 65 and won 30 out of 50 T20Is.

When Kohli announced to step down from the T20I and RCB captaincy, it looked like he didn't want to give up Test and ODI captaincy. He wanted to gear up for the ICC World Cup 2023, So, we can deduce that this might be a surprise blow for him as well.

Rohit Sharma Captaincy

Rohit Sharma has been vice captain in white-ball cricket for a long time now.

If we look at his achievements, we can see why the BCCI took this decision.

He is the most successful IPL captain with 5 title wins under his cap. And coming to the international circuit, Rohit Sharma has captained India in 10 ODIs out of which he won 8 matches. In the 22 T20Is he captained, India won 18. He is undoubtedly an amazing captain of the white-ball cricket which is why the BCCI has handed him the leadership responsibilities keeping in mind to give him ample time before T20 World Cup 2022 and ICC World Cup 2023.
