Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) had contrasting results in their opening game of the Indian Premier League (IPL). While KKR steamrolled CSK by 6 wickets, RCB failed to defend 205 against Punjab. For RCB, the problem was the same as we have seen in the previous few seasons - their bowlers.
The bowlers had no clue about what to do when the opposition batters were in charge. However, they had some positives as well as Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli played blazing innings, showing their batting prowess.
Meanwhile, KKR had a near-perfect game as the bowlers were right on the money and didn't allow any breathing space to CSK batters, while the chase of 132 was smooth as a cakewalk.
RCB and KKR are two of the biggest camps in IPL. The two teams were part of the inaugural match of the IPL in 2008. Since then, the teams have gone on to deliver some spectacular contests. The two teams have been very competitive over the years. However, KKR have a slender lead over RCB. In the 30 games the two teams have met, KKR have tasted win on 17 occasions, while RCB has 13 wins to their name.

RCB and KKR last met in the Eliminator of the IPL 2021 in Sharjah. Despite playing well in the league stage RCB failed to finish in the top two and set up a must-win clash against KKR for a berth in the IPL final.
KKR, on the other hand, had contrasting results in India and UAE. In the first half of the tournament, they lost most of their games but bounced back in style in UAE to reach the playoffs.
Speaking about the game, RCB choked in the crucial game and could only manage 138-7 in their quota of overs. Virat Kohli top-scored for the side with 39 runs. Chasing a modest target, KKR started off well with a 41 run stand, but three two quick wickets pegged them back.
Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana steadied the ship and took KKR to 110 before Iyer fell. A breezy 26 by Sunil Narine took KKR closer and formalities were completed by Eoin Morgan and Shakib Al Hasan as KKR won by 4 wickets.
