Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings Preview

Punjab Kings will be disappointed with their performance so far. They have played seven games and won just 3. They have played an aggressive brand of cricket which has worked for them in a few games. However, it has resulted in a few collapses as well which is why Punjab have lost four games.

Meanwhile, Chennai have just started to find their feet in the tournament. They have won just two of their seven games. However, both wins have come in the last three games. The team still has a lot to work in the batting and bowling department.

Punjab Kings

Team News

There have been calls to include Bhanuka Rajapaksa in the team but we doubt Punjab will drop Bairstow for Rajapaksa. However, they may include Rishi Dhawan in place of Vaibhav Arora to strengthen their batting.

Top Order

Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal will open the innings. Mayank has been disappointing so far, while Dhawan has blown hot and cold. Jonny Bairstow will follow the openers. He will be eyeing a big knock against CSK.

Middle Order

Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma and Shahrukh Khan will comprise the middle order. Livingstone and Sharma have been top-notch while Khan has also hit a few lusty blows. However, all these players will need a platform to go big.

All-rounders

Lack of specialist all-rounders can hurt the team.

Bowlers - Kagiso Rabada, Nathan Ellis, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh and Rishi Dhawan will be the bowlers. The bowling from Punjab has been ordinary and all these bowlers will have to bring out their A-game against CSK.

PBKS Key Batters

  • Liam Livingstone - Livingstone has scored 226 runs in the tournament so far. He has been the best Punjab batter and will be keen to do well against CSK as well.
  • Shikhar Dhawan - Dhawan is an important member of the team. He can be the anchor in the batting lineup and prevent collapse. Punjab will rest their hopes on him
  • Jitesh Sharma - He has played a few cameos for the team and Punjab will expect a good performance from him in the next game.

Chennai Super Kings

Team News

Chennai won their last game and there is no need for them to tinker with the winning combination.

Top Order

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa will open the innings. Gaikwad scored a 73 against Gujarat but was out on a duck in the last game. He needs to be a lot more consistent. Uthappa has been good, playing some crisp innings. Ambati Rayudu will follow the openers. Rayudu has also played a couple of good knocks but needs consistency.

Middle Order

Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni will be the middle-order batters. Dube has played some blazing innings for CSK this season, while Dhoni will be high on confidence after playing a match-winning knock in the last match against Mumbai

All-rounders

Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo and Dwayne Pretorius will be the all-rounders alongside Dube. All of them have underperformed so far.

Mitchell Santner, Maheesh Theekshana and Mukesh Choudhary will form decent bowling. Theekshana has been good throughout while Mukesh had a brilliant game against Mumbai.

CSK Key Batters

  • Robin Uthappa - He has been one of the best batters for CSK this season. He has scored 227 runs at an average of over 30. CSK will need him to deliver another good performance in this crunch game.
  • Shivam Dube - Dube has also played a few good hands for CSK. Overall, he has scored 239 runs this season. With form behind him, he will be eyeing another good show.
  • Ruturaj Gaikwad - Gaikwad is not having a great tournament but he is a top batter and one cannot count him out. He scored a 73 just a few days ago and can have another good game.

CSK Key Bowlers

  • Mukesh Choudhary - The left-arm pacer rattled Mumbai's top order in the last game. CSK will hope he can have a similar outing against Punjab as well.
  • Maheesh Theekshana - The mystery spinner has had some decent outings for CSK this season. He is not easy to hit and given Punjab's approach of hit or miss cricket, he can be handy for CSK.
  • Mitchell Santner - Spinners might get some help on the surface and Santner is very good at exploiting any help that's on offer.
