In the latest IPL news, Lucknow Super Giants has been unveiled as the name for the new Lucknow based IPL franchise which is set to participate in the IPL 2022.

The owner of the franchise, RP Sanjiv Goenka group has named the franchise after the name of their previous franchise Rising Pune Supergiants, which played in IPL 2016-2017 when Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were banned for two years.

Last week, the owner of the group, Sanjiv Goenka, introduced KL Rahul as the captain of their new Lucknow franchise. KL Rahul has been bought by the team for a whopping INR 17 crore (around USD 2.28 million), which is not the joint highest fee for a player in the history of the Indian Premier League.

Along with KL Rahul, the Lucknow team has also signed Australian all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis and Indian leg spinner, Ravi Bishnoi, who was KL Rahul’s teammate in the Punjab Kings team. To rope in Stoinis, the owner has paid INR 9.2 crore while Bishnoi has been bought for INR 4 crore.

IPL 2022 is set to take place in the month of March and 27th March is currently a tentative date for the commencement of the T20 league. With the inclusion of 2 new franchises from Lucknow and Ahmedabad, IPL 2022 will be played between 10 teams. Ahmedabad is also expected to reveal the name of their team soon. They have signed Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill till now.
