The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier 2022 witnessed a record-breaking milestone in the T20I circuit when France’s opener batsman Gustav Mckeon became the youngest cricketer to smash a T20I century. He achieved the feat during a clash between France and Switzerland where he scored 109 runs off 61 deliveries which includes five 4s and nine 6s.

Mckeon smashed an international T20 century at the age of 18 years and 280 days, a record which was earlier titled to Afghanistan’s cricketer Hazratullah Zazai, who scored a T20I century against Ireland at the age of 20 years and 337 days.

Despite Mckeon’s heroic innings, France couldn’t win the match and succumbed to Switzerland’s 1 wicket win. Chasing a target of 158, Swiss opening batsman Faheem Nazir scored 67 runs off 46 balls but it was Ali Nayyar who made the chase possible for his team by playing a match winning knock of 48 off just 16 deliveries.

In his debut T20I match before this match, which was against Czech Republic, Mckeon scored 76 runs off 54 deliveries. Currently, Mckeon has accumulated 185 runs in 2 T20Is at an average of 92.5 and a strike rate of 160.87.

France and Switzerland are currently at the 2nd and 3rd spot, respectively, on the points table while Norway is at the top with 2 wins from 2 matches.
