Kolkata Knight Riders top order batter Ajinkya Rahane is ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a grade III hamstring injury which he picked during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rahane didn’t take up the field during KKR’s bowling.

According to Cricbuzz, Rahane will have to undergo around 4 weeks of rehab program at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Rahane’s name will not be included in the India’s squad to tour England in June. India is set to tour England for an all-format series including 1 Test match, 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs. The team is set to leave for England on 16th June and Rahane’s chances of making it to the squad seems less now.

Rahane has already been dropped from the Indian Test team. Shreyas Iyer and Hanuma Vihari replaced Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara in the home Test series against Sri Lanka in March this year. Iyer and Vihari performed quite well and they might retain their places in the playing 11 against England.

Rahane struggled in this year’s IPL edition as well. In 7 matches, he managed to score only 133 runs at an average of 19.00. After opening in the first 5 matches, he was dropped and later was called back to the playing 11 against Mumbai Indians.
