In a big blow to Sunrisers Hyderabad, spinner all-rounder Washington Sundar is likely to miss the two upcoming SRH contests. Sundar is one of the key players for SRH and he is in good form with both bat and ball.

In the last match against Gujarat Titans, Sundar suffered a split webbing in his right hand which is also his bowling hand. Before injuring himself, Sundar bowled 3 overs and gave just 14 runs which helped restricting GT below the par score. SRH handed GT their first defeat of IPL.

On Sundar’s injury, SRH head coach Tom Moody said, “Washington has torn the webbing in his right hand, between his thumb and first finger. We must monitor that over the next two-three days. Hopefully, it isn't a significant blow. I'd imagine it'd take probably a week or so to settle down.”

Washington has been a victim of injuries since last year. He also missed the 2nd leg of the IPL 2021 in UAE due to finger injury. In February this year, he missed 3 T20Is against West Indies due to a hamstring.

Washington Sundar in IPL 2022

In the first match this season, Sundar was taken for a ride by the Rajasthan Royals’ batters and was smashed for 47 runs in 4 overs but Sundar impressed everyone with the bat by scoring 40 runs off just 14 deliveries in that match. In the next 2 matches, Sundar picked 4 wickets and pulled his economy below 6. In the match against CSK, Sundar took wickets of dangerous batters Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa.

Sundar’s Replacement Probables

Although Sundar’s void will be difficult to fill, SRH skipper Kane Williamson might look towards spinner Shreyas Gopal or Jagadeesha Suchith to replace him. Shreyas Gopal has a good IPL experience, he has picked 48 wickets in 48 matches at an economy of 8.04, while left-arm spinner Suchith has picked 12 wickets in 17 IPL matches.

Tom Moody has also hinted to bring Aiden Markram into action as a 6th bowler for his spin bowling, for the next matches.

SRH is scheduled to face Kolkata Knight Riders on 15th April and Punjab Kings on 17th April.
