Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Preview

CSK have had a horrible start to their campaign. They have played three games and lost all of them. The batters have not scored runs, while the bowling has looked bleak as well. They will be keen to get their first point on the table against SRH, who too have been poor. SRH have played two games and lost both. The lack of runs from Kane Williamson is hurting them. However, they have a good bowling attack.

Chennai Super Kings

While CSK will be tempted to bring in Devon Conway, they will play with the same team as they can't drop Moeen Ali or Dwayne Bravo, as they add a lot of balance to the team.

Top Order

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa will open the innings, followed by Moeen Ali. Gaikwad needs to step up as he has been fairly ordinary. Uthappa has given some solid starts but hasn't kicked off. Ali was one of the top batters for CSK last season and he will have to do some magic this season as well.

Middle Order

Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni will have to bring out their A game. Rayudu has looked scratchy this season, while Dhoni has been good in patches. However, both these players will have to be consistent and keep the momentum in the middle overs.

All-rounders

Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube and Dwayne Bravo will be the all-rounders. These players will be responsible for providing a strong finish, while will be equally important with the ball as well.

Bowlers

Chris Jordan, Dwayne Pretorius and Mukesh Choudhary will be the three pacers. These bowlers are the best options available in the absence of Deepak Chahar.

CSK Key Batters

  • Ruturaj Gaikwad - While Gaikwad has not fired, he is an important batter of the side and needs to come good to revive CSK's campaign.
  • Moeen Ali - Ali too will have a big role to play. Usually, it's him who pushes the run rate after the powerplay and if he fails to score, the likes of Dhoni and Rayudu are under pressure.
  • Ambati Rayudu - Rayudu is good against pace and spin and will have the responsibility of keeping the runs flowing in middle overs.

CSK Top Batsman Stats

Ambati Rayudu 178 3971 28.99 126.87 21/1

CSK Key Bowlers

  • Dwayne Bravo - The leading wicket-taker in IPL will be most crucial with the ball for CSK in the middle overs.
  • Chris Jordan - Jordan has a lot of skills up his sleeves and is a very good death overs bowler. He had a good game the other day and CSK will be expecting another such performance from him.
  • Dwayne Pretorious - Another bowler who is not a genuine wickettaker but can do well on his day. CSK will have to trust him as they don't have much options available.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Top Order

Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma will open the batting, followed by Aiden Markram. Markram can also be asked to open the innings as he is a specialist opener.

Middle Order

Aiden Markram, Rahul Tripathi, Abdul Samad and Nicholas Pooran form a strong middle order. These players are inconsistent and can blow hot and cold. However, on their day, they can tear apart a bowling lineup.

All-rounders

Marco Jansen and Washington Sundar will be the all-rounders. Both these players will be key with the ball, especially Sundar in the powerplay. Both can bat as well and will add depth to the side.

Bowlers

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan and Umran Malik make a strong pace attack as well. While these players are good at controlling the run flow, they are not wicket takers.

SRH Key Batters

  • Kane Williamson - Williamson is the best batter of the side but has not fired. The team will expect runs from him.
  • Rahul Tripathi - Tripathi was one of the key performers for Kolkata in the last two seasons. He looked good in SRH's last match and the team will expect another decent show from him.
  • Aiden Markram - Markram scored a 50 in SRH's first game. He is an opener and can be utilised there.
