The 15th edition of the Asia Cup is scheduled to take place from August 27 - September 11 this year in Sri Lanka. The decision has been taken recently in the Annual General Meeting of the Asia Cricket Council (ACC). The Asia-specific Cricket tournament is making a come back after the 2018 season. The 2022 Asia Cup will be a T20I tournament like the 2016 edition. Rest of the seasons so far featured the ODI format.

Sri Lanka was selected to host the Asia Cup 2022 but the tournament was delayed to 2021 and then further to 2022 due to several reasons. Pakistan was earlier approved to host the 2022 edition of Asia Cup but as the 2020 season is postponed to 2022, now Pakistan will host the Asia Cup 2023.

The Asia Cup 2022 will feature all the 5 Test teams of Asia - India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. A sixth team will also join the tournament, which will be decided from the qualifiers, to start from August 20, 2022. UAE, Kuwait, Singapore and Hong Kong will fight it out in the qualifiers to proceed to the Asia Cup.

Asia Cup 2018 champions India, is the most successful team with 7 wins so far while Sri Lanka is at the 2nd spot with 5 wins and Pakistan at 3rd with 2 wins so far.

At the meeting, it was decided unanimously that BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who is the President of the Asian Cricket Council, will continue with his position until the 2024 AGM.

The meeting panel also decided that Oman Cricket Association’s status is upgraded from Associate member of ACC to a Full Member now.
