In latest developments, former Zimbabwean batsman and experienced coach, Andy Flower has been appointed as the head coach of the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. The news came after RCB released the former head coach Sanjay Bangar and Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson.
Andy Flower is a well-respected coach and has plentiful coaching experience with both international and franchise teams. Under his guidance, England won their first ever T20 World Cup in 2010 and he also took England to the No.1 spot in ICC test rankings.
Flower also has a vast experience of leading some T20 franchises to title wins. He led Multan Sultans in PSL, Trent Rockets in The Hundred, Gulf Giants in ILT20 and Maratha Arabians in Abu Dhabi T10.
Andy Flower is one of the top cricketers from Zimbabwe. He was the first player from Zimbabwe to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. Flower finished his career with 4794 runs in 63 Tests at an aggressive average of 51.54.
He has played more than 200 One-Day Internationals in which he has accumulated 6786 runs at an average of 35.34.
In an announcement released by RCB, Andy Flower said, “I am really proud to be joining RCB. I’m truly honoured to represent a franchise of their size, reputation and standing. RCB have an unrivalled fan following and I can’t wait to fully experience the atmosphere in the Chinnaswamy next season.”
Andy Flower has also expressed his excitement to work with RCB skipper Faf du Plessis one more time after their earlier stint together with the CPL franchise Saint Lucia Kings.
RCB is one of the IPL teams which has never won a title till now and every year they are trying something new to claim the milestone. Andy Flower is certainly a reputed coach and perfect for this job to take the reins of the team ahead.
