India Capitals are favorites to win
India Capitals will take on Bhilwara Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. The Final of the 2022 Legends Cricket League begins at 19:30 local time on Wednesday 5th October.
The Capitals finished top of the group stage with three wins, two defeats and one no-result. They were level on points with Bhilwara Kings but had a far superior net-run-rate. The Capitals qualified for the final with a four wicket win over the Kings in Sunday’s Qualifier.
Former New Zealand captain Ross Taylor top scored for the Capitals in the Qualifier with 84 runs from 39 balls. He enjoyed a 58 run partnership for the fifth wicket with Ashley Nurse who hit an equally destructive 60 not out from 28 balls.
Former Australian left-arm pace bowler Mitchell Johnson was expensive in the Qualifier but performed the strike-bowler role to a high standard. He dismissed Morne van Wyk in the opening over before returning to take the crucial wicket of Yusuf Pathan in the final over. England’s Liam Plunkett also took a wicket.
The Capitals have lost only two games all campaign but have won three of their last four matches.
After losing the Qualifier to India Capitals on Sunday, Bhilwara Kings responded with a six wicket victory over Gujarat Giants on Monday to reach this final. They finished the group stage in second place and were stronger than the Giants and the Tigers over those six matches.
Requiring 195 to win on Monday, Bhilwara Kings got over the line and confirmed their place in the final with 9 balls remaining. The top three, William Porterfield, Morne van Wyk and Shane Watson contributed 139 of the runs with Porterfield hitting his second successive half-century.
The Kings put in an excellent bowling performance on a good batting wicket to defeat the Giants in the Eliminator. Jesal Karia and Yusuf Pathan were the only bowlers out of the eight used to not take a wicket. Sreesanth took 2-28 and caught the eye alongside Fidel Edwards who took 1-31.
Although the Kings lost against the Capitals in the Qualifier, it is the only game they have lost from their last four matches.
The match will be played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Historically, this pitch does not offer a great deal for the spin bowlers in T20 cricket and we expect a par score to be no higher than 170.
