Callum Ferguson will be leading Sydney Thunder this BBL season. South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris and England opening batsman Alex Hales are two of the notable signings by the franchise this year. Morris, however, will not be available for this match. Usman Khuwaja will probably open the batting alongside skipper Ferguson.
Alex Hales, Usman Khuwaja and Callum Ferguson are the big guns for Sydney Thunder as far as batting is concerned. Ferguson was impressive with the bat last season scoring 442 runs and the captain will be expected to lead from the front in this opening match. The Thunder will rely mainly on Chris Tremain and Chris Green to deliver the goods with the ball. Even Daniel Sams, who took 15 wickets last time, will be a threat to Brisbane Heat.
Like Brisbane Heat, Sydney Thunder too could not make it past the league stage of the last season. They won six and lost seven out of their 14 league matches to end up sixth on the points table.
