Date | May 8th, 2023 |
Time | 7:30 PM IST, 2:00 PM GMT, 7:30 PM Local Time |
Venue | Eden Gardens, Kolkata |
Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings will battle it out at the Eden Gardens to keep their playoff hopes alive. KKR have played 10 matches and have just four matches so they cannot afford any more losses. PBKS, on the other hand, have five wins in 10 matches and are in a slightly better position, winning five matches. They are tied on points with RCB, MI and RR so they will be desperate to get a win and move ahead of the three teams in the race for the playoffs.
The wicket will help the spinners. In recent few games, the spinners have got the ball to grip and turn from the surface. KKR, with three quality spinners, will start as the favourite.
West Bengal has been hit by Cyclone Mocha and could well wash out today’s game. The entire state has been put on high alert due to the cyclone.

Jason Roy has injected sudden firepower in KKR batting. Roy has been brilliant in the four matches he has played for the KKR, scoring 180 runs at a Strike rate of 160, with two half-centuries.
Jitesh Sharma has been a great find for PBKS this season. Getting an opportunity to bat slightly up the order, Sharma grabbed it with both hands, playing multiple impactful knocks. Sharma has scored 239 runs in 10 matches and could add a few more in the coming game.
Liam Livingstone seems to have found his mojo back. The batter has played a couple of blistering knocks in the last two matches. Livingstone overall has scored 157 runs in five matches at a strike rate of near 170. PBKS will hope that Livingstone hits his peak soon as every game for PBKS is now a must-win for them.
Varun Chakravarthy has been Kolkata Knight Riders' top wicket-taker this season, picking up 14 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 21.50. Varun has been KKR's best bowler this season and the team will be expecting a good show from him against PBKS as well.
Even though Sam Curran hasn’t had the best seasons with bat or ball, his all-round skills make him a valuable pick.
