England suffered a crushing defeat to India in the recently concluded limited overs series. They lost the T20I series 2-1 before succumbing to defeat in the ODI series as well with the same margin. The series loss was a massive dent to their reputation as World Champions. They will be keen to make a statement against South Africa.
Meanwhile, South Africa come into the series after losing to Bangladesh at home in the previous ODI series. They were outplayed by the Bangladesh tigers and lost the series 2-1. South Africa has a great bowling attack but their batting can be inconsistent at times. If the batters fire in the coming series, they will have a great chance of winning the series.
The surfaces in the IND-ENG series favoured the batters and the pitch at Chester le Street should should be no different. England banks on their batters to take them to a win thus a green wicket is very unlikely.
The weather will be clear with the temperature soaring to 32 degrees. Considering English weather, this will be a hot day for the players.
Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, Joe Root, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Reece Topley, Matty Potts, Adil Rashid
Reeza Hendricks, Quinton de Kock(wk) Janneman Malan, Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Dwayne Pretorious, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj (C), Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi.
Matty Potts and Adil Rashid have returned to the English team. For South Africa, Kagiso Rabada won't be available.
The two teams have fared well against each other, however, both have won more matches at home thus England have an advantage here.

Buttler was the only England batter who looked in good rhythm against India. Even though he didn't play a big inning, he was very comfortable at the crease. He even scored a half century in the final ODI.
Quinton de Kock at the top can be destructive with the bat. He has been in some decent form of late in T20Is and will be keen to continue with the momentum in the longer format as well. De Kock is one player who likes to play big innings in the SA team.
Another terrific pick for any fantasy team. Moeen is a very underrated cricketer and boasts of match winning skills in both departments of the game. He is very good with the bat and equally potent with the bowl.
Rassie van der Dussen is a crucial member of the SA middle order. If early wickets fell, he is someone who can hang in there and prevent the collapse. He can switch gears according to the situation thus is a very dangerous player to have.
Adil Rashid is back in the England team. He has been one of England's match winners with the ball and England desperately missed him in the ODI series against India. SA batters have had issues with spin thus Rashid is a good player to have.
