England host South Africa in a three-game ODI series with the opening match taking place on Tuesday at the Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street. The hosts come into this match after losing their recent home series with India 2-1. South Africa were beaten by the same scoreline at home to Bangladesh earlier this year. There are two changes to England’s ODI squad from the group who took on India earlier this month. In comes Adil Rashid and the uncapped Matty Potts with Harry Brook and Matt Parkinson dropping out. Long term bowling absentees Mark Wood, Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes are all still unavailable.
Although England were on the receiving end of a 2-1 scoreline against India, they won the penultimate game and were competitive in the final match before going down in defeat.

The Proteas have selected a strong squad for the ODI series and will be led by spinner Keshav Maharaj across the three games. Two notable absentees from the side are usual white ball captain Temba Bavuma, who has an elbow injury, and Kagiso Rabada, who has been rested from this series.
Although South Africa lost their last ODI series to Bangladesh at home, they had beaten India 3-0 only two months earlier.
