West Indies Team News & Playing 11

WI Team News

West Indies profited from adding an extra bowling option last time out, as Sheldon Cottrell replaced big-hitting Nicholas Pooran in the line-up. That better balance could be repeated as the hosts look to back up their win.

WI Key Players

Shai Hope came into this series in red-hot form, scoring 43, 146* and 108* against Bangladesh, and he has added 64 and 33 so far in this series. He was outshone by Chris Gayle's 135 from 129 balls in the first game, however - and the veteran opener hit another 50 last time out.

In the middle order, Shimron Hetmyer smashed 104 from 83 balls last time out to record his second ODI hundred, in a format he now averages 42 in with the bat at a strike rate of 109.29.

Sheldon Cottrell's bowling was the major difference between the first two games, however. He removed both openers last time out and added a further three as England collapsed - finishing with 5-46 from nine overs.

Jason Holder took 3-53, meanwhile, to add to his 2-63 in the first game. The captain now has 117 ODI wickets in 86 appearances, as well as being useful down the order with the bat too.

WI Team Form

West Indies are still looking for their first ODI series/tournament success since beating Bangladesh at home in 2014.

Before facing England, they lost 2-1 to Bangladesh on the back of a 3-1 defeat in India. Against the Bangladeshis - in Bangladesh - they lost the first game by five wickets after posting just 195/9, though Shai Hope's unbeaten 146 from 144 balls helped them bounced back with a four-wicket win chasing 256 in the second.

In the decider, Hope hit another century but West Indies were restricted to 198/9 and lost by eight wickets.

In this series, Chris Gayle became the latest to hit a century in vain as West Indies failed to defend 360/8 in the first game but, after Shimron Hetmyer's unbeaten 104, they bowled England out for 263 - Sheldon Cottrell taking 5-46 - to win the second game and level the series.

West Indies Predicted Playing 11

England Team News & Playing 11

ENG Team News

Tom Curran slotted into the line-up last time out but went wicketless and was then given out to a terrible LBW decision first up. He should be given at least another game, however, as England assess their World Cup options. Joe Denly and Alex Hales have yet to be used at the top of the order, but again knee-jerk changes would be uncharacteristic from England who - apart from the defeat last time out - have been in good form in ODI cricket.

ENG Key Players

Eoin Morgan and Joe Root have been in outstanding form in England's recent ODI successes and that looks set to continue in the West Indies. Morgan scored two half-centuries in the rain-affected series win against Sri Lanka and has hit 65 and 70 in the two matches in this series too.

Root, meanwhile, was one of two centurions in the first game - scoring 102, having also hit 114 in the warm-up game. He now has 14 ODI centuries to his name, and 30 in all formats with England.

Jason Roy was the other centurion in the first game - another continuing the superb form he has showed over the past 12 months or so in ODI cricket. He hit 123 from 85 balls.

England's greatest strength has been their batting depth in this format, meanwhile. Ben Stokes top-scored with 79 last time out, while Jos Buttler is also down the order and yet to show his best form - having been one of the stand-out batsmen during his recent Big Bash League stint.

Stokes also took 3-37 with the ball in the first game, while Adil Rashid's leg-spin has brought four wickets across the two matches so far.

ENG Team Form

England went into this series having won ten of their last 12 completed matches, so that record now reads 11 wins in 14 since a shock defeat in a one-off game against Scotland.

Before jetting out to the West Indies, England backed up series wins against Australia and India in the summer by beating Sri Lanka in a rain-affected series. Rain curtailed their first game, but England then won three in a row with Eoin Morgan in fine batting to ensure they would win the series - he hit 92, 58* and 31* in three consecutive innings. They conceded 366/6 in their final game, however, and were 132/9 when rain put them out of their misery in reply and consigned them to a 219-run DLS method defeat.

England Predicted Playing 11

Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Tom Curran, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid

West Indies vs England Head to Head

This will be the 99th ODI match between West Indies and England, with England's victory in the first game of this series their 50th in those fixtures. West Indies have now won 43 after their success last time out.

It means West Indies have already done better than the last time they met, in England, when England claimed a 4-0 series win with Jonny Bairstow scoring 302 runs - including two centuries - in the series. England also won 3-0 last time they were in the West Indies so victory last time out was very overdue for the hosts.

As a result, they go into this third game all square in the five-match series - England having chased 361 to win the first game by six wickets before falling to 263 all out in the second match in pursuit of 290 for victory.

West Indies vs England Betting Odds

England remain big favourites to beat West Indies in this third ODI, at 1.40 to win, though the West Indies can be backed at 3.00 - both with Bet365.

Chris Gayle was the star batsman for the hosts in the first game and followed that up with a half-century last time out. In top for, he is 3.75 to be their top run scorer. Shai Hope (5.00) and Shimron Hetmyer (5.50) - a centurion last time - are also worth a look.

For England, Joe Root is 4.00 to be their top batsman, while Jason Roy is 4.50 after both hitting centuries first up. Eoin Morgan is in consistently good form, however, and he could prove profitable at 5.50 to be their top batsman.

The difference last time out was Sheldon Cottrell’s bowling. If England are to bounce back, they will need their bowlers to excel this time and Adil Rashid, their most consistent wicket taker in this format, is 4.33 to be their top bowler.

🏆 West Indies vs England Prediction

England's batting collapse in the second ODI was uncharacteristic given their form in the 50-over format and they will be keen to bounce straight back in this third game.
