Toronto Nationals captain Darren Sammy bowled first upon winning the toss in their first game – teams have tended to bowl first rather than bat so far in Ontario.
Read on for team previews, betting tips, latest odds and match prediction for Toronto Nationals vs Winnipeg Hawks – Global T20 Canada.
Kamran Akmal has not featured for the Toronto Nationals so far, who dropped Umair Ghani and replaced him with Mohammad Sami for their second game. Anton Devcich was a late replacement to the squad, meanwhile, after Hussain Talat was called up to play for Pakistan. Devicich marked his first game with a match-winning innings.
Players whose places could be in danger are opener Nizakat Khan – who has scored just six runs in the first two matches, from just one scoring shot, and Mohammad Naveed. The latter has conceded 81 runs from just six overs across the two matches played so far.
Anton Devcich was Toronto’s star man in their monster chase in the first match – he hit 92 not out from 44 balls. He also shared a 91-run partnership with Steve Smith for the third wicket, on the Australian’s return to top-level cricket. Smith’s international and IPL experience makes him a real coup for the Toronto Nationals and the Global T20 Canada tournament as a whole.
With the ball, meanwhile, Canadian international off-spinner has bowled economically to return figures of 2/26 and 0/20 in the two matches so far. Kieron Pollard and Kesrick Williams are the other two bowlers to have taken wickets for Toronto so far.
Captain Darren Sammy boasts huge experience in T20 cricket, meanwhile – the former World Cup-winning West Indies captain captained Peshawar Zalmi to the final of his most recent T20 franchise tournament, the Pakistan Super League, too.

Winnipeg Hawks play two games in two days, with team selection likely to depend on how they come through the match against Vancouver Knights. In their first game, David Warner made a low-key return to senior cricket as compatriot Ben McDermott outshone him in Winnipeg’s 46-run win.
Australian wicket-keeper Ben McDermott was Winnipeg’s star man in the first game, continuing the form he showed in the Surrey XI vs Aboriginal XI match at the Oval earlier in June as he top-scored with 68 for the Hawks.
His compatriot David Warner remains a danger man on his return, and he and fellow big-hitting opener Lendl Simmons will look to make the difference against Vancouver. Darren Bravo also hit a half-century in the last match (54 from 29 balls) while David Miller smashed 35* from 15 balls.
With the ball, both Dwayne Bravo (3-24) and Junaid Siddiqui (3-35) picked up three wickets, while USA international Ali Khan’s economical 2-18 from four overs set the tone for their comfortable win perfectly.
Winnipeg Hawks won their first match thanks to a great all-round display. Lendl Simmons hit 36 at the top of the order and Ben McDermott (68 from 46 balls) and Darren Bravo (54 from 29) rallied in the middle overs. A late flurry from David Miller helped them to 203/4.
In Montreal Tigers’ reply, Ali Khan took a wicket with the second ball of the innings and Winnipeg struck consistently from there on – Khan, Dwayne Bravo and Junaid Siddiqui sharing eight of the ten wickets between them as the Tigers were dismissed for 157 – 46 runs short.
Winnipeg’s second game is against Vancouver Knights before they face Toronto in this match the following day.

Toronto’s batting was excellent in their first match and got their bowlers out of trouble, but when they fell short against Edmonton it led to a big defeat. Winnipeg have the batting and bowling to take advantage.
Final Verdict: Back Winnipeg Hawks to beat Toronto Nationals
