The inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada is set to begin from June 28. This 18-day long tournament featuring six participating teams - Winnipeg Hawks, Vancouver Knights, Toronto Nationals, Montreal Tigers, Edmonton Royals and Cricket West Indies B Team - will be played in a round-robin format with each team taking on every other team once before round 2 and the playoffs. While the first five of those teams are from Canada, the sixth team represents the West Indies with all its players from the Caribbean. The Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City, Ontario will host all the matches including the final which is scheduled to be played on July 15. Dwayne Bravo, Chris Lynn, Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine and David Miller are some of the players that have been named as marquee players of the tournament. David Warner and Steven Smith, who are both serving suspension from international cricket for their involvement in the Ashes ball-tampering scandal, will be playing for Winnipeg Hawks and Toronto Nationals respectively.

Their 14-man squad includes the marquee players in Steven Smith and two-time World T20 winning captain Darren Sammy of the West Indies. Smith is going to be the key man with the bat for the Toronto Nationals who also have Kamran Akmal and Johnson Charles in the batting department. Kieron Pollard and Darren Sammy will play vital roles with both bat and ball while fast bowlers Kesrick Williams and Rumman Raees will test the opposition's batsmen with their fiery pace.

The team is packed with quite a few power-hitters and some of Pakistan's finest T20 bowlers. Chris Lynn and Luke Ronchi will both be dangerous at the top while Shahid Afridi and Christiaan Jonker will be handy with the bat down the order. Sohail Tanvir has done well for T20 franchises around the world and he will be the go-to man for Edmonton Royals when it comes to bowling. Apart from him, the team also has quality bowlers in Wayne Parnell, Mohammad Irfan and Shahid Afridi.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Anthony Bramble has been confirmed to lead Cricket West Indies B Team that consists exclusively of players from the Caribbean. Nicholas Pooran who has a fair bit of experience of playing at the international level appears to be the most high profile player in this 14-man squad. Alick Athanaze, Roland Cato and Brandon King are the other players in the side who are also capable with the bat. The team's bowling lineup seems to be pace heavy with fast bowlers Derval Green, Jeremiah Louis, Obed McCoy and Shamar Springer.

Cricket West Indies B Team are the bookmakers' underdogs and are priced at 7.80 on Betfair and 9 on Bet365 to win the Global T20 Canada 2018.
Their 16-man squad includes the explosive West Indian trio of Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis and Andre Russell who form the core of the team's batting lineup. All three of them are clean strikers of the cricket ball and their ability to hit sixes at will makes them a big threat for any opposition. Andre Russell, Tim Southee and Sheldon Cottrell make up a formidable pace attack while Fawad Ahmed will be the main man in the spin department. Southee has 62 wickets in 50 T20Is and Vancouver Knights will mostly rely on him.

Vancouver Knights are favorites amongst the bookmakers to win the Global T20 Canada 2018 at odds of 3.70 on Betfair and 4 on Bet365.
With David Warner and Lendl Simmons in the side, Winnipeg Hawks have arguably the best opening combination in the tournament. Their middle-order batting looks strong as well with the likes of David Miller and Dwayne Bravo. The latter will also be one of the main weapons in the team's bowling arsenal and can do a lot of damage towards the backend of the innings. Fidel Edwards is probably the fastest of all the bowlers in this 15-man squad and he will be threatening with the new ball.

While Betfair has Winnipeg Hawks set at 3.95, Bet365 is offering a higher price of 5 on them to win the Global T20 Canada 2018.
While Mohammad Hafeez and Sikandar Raza will be the team's biggest hopes with the bat at the top, middle-order batting will depend mainly on Thisara Perera and Denesh Ramdin. Perera can smack a few out of the park and can be very destructive on his day. His tendency to break set partnerships means that he will also have a major role to play when it comes to bowling. Sunil Narine who has shown his ability with the bat in the IPL is also one of the best T20 bowlers in the world and the team is likely to bring him early on into the attack. Montreal Tigers also have other good bowling options in Lasith Malinga and Sandeep Lamichhane.

Montreal Tigers are being offered at odds of 4.90 on Betfair and 6 on Bet365 to win the Global T20 Canada 2018.
Except Nicholas Pooran, Cricket West Indies B Team do not have any other player of international status on their roster. So they appear to be the weakest of all the teams in the GT20 Canada and are therefore least likely to win the tournament. That leaves us with the five Canadian teams, each having a few reputed names in its squad. Montreal Tigers have plenty of quality bowlers in their side but lack firepower in the batting department. So they will often find themselves in trouble while defending low scores or chasing big totals. Edmonton Royals, Toronto Nationals, Winnipeg Hawks and Vancouver Knights all seem pretty strong on paper and there is a very high probability that the winner of the Global T20 Canada will be from these four teams. However, if we have to choose one, it would be the Toronto Nationals who look the best balanced of all the teams with the most successful T20I captain Darren Sammy in their ranks.
Final Verdict: Back Toronto Nationals to win the Global T20 Canada 2018 at 4.90 with Betfair and 4.50 with Bet365.
