Somerset are favorites to win
Sussex Sharks will take on Somerset at the County Ground, Hove. This T20 match begins at 19:00 local time on Friday 26th May.
After impressing in white ball cricket over previous seasons, Sussex Sharks finished down in seventh place in the South Group in last year’s T20 Blast. The Sharks will be without England internationals Jofra Archer and Ollie Robinson who are injured.
Experienced former England international Ravi Bopara will be full of confidence ahead of this game after hitting an incredible 144 from 49 balls in a 2nd XI T20 game on Tuesday. Tom Alsop and Tom Haines will bat at the top of the order for the side.
Tymal Mills will lead Sussex Sharks’ bowling attack in this game and across the tournament with Steven Finn, George Garton, Australia’s Nathan McAndrew and Pakistan’s Shadab Khan all top performers in this format. There is always turn and movement off the pitch for the bowlers at Hove.
Sussex Sharks are looking to avoid their fourth successive T20 Blast defeat in this match with their last game a five wicket loss to Hampshire Hawks.
It was an excellent start to the season for the 2022 semi-finalists Somerset who beat Hampshire Hawks by 8 wickets on Wednesday. The result was all the sweeter for Somerset’s players and supporters as it was the Hawks who had beaten them in the semi-final last year. No injuries were reported after Wednesday's win.
After the bowlers had done all the hard work in the first half of the game, Tom Banton took the opportunity to get his campaign off to a strong start with 40 runs from 24 balls against Hampshire Hawks at the top of the order. It is a strong batting line-up for Somerset which has been improved by the singing of Tom Kohler-Cadmore.
Although his two overs conceded only 10 runs, Peter Siddle’s bowling figures were the worst of the side on Wednesday as Hampshire were bowled out for 74 inside 17 overs. Craig Overton and Ben Green both took three wickets with Lewis Gregory and Matt Henry taking two each.
It was a brilliant team effort to get their T20 Blast season underway from Somerset with their bowlers particularly impressive.
This Vitality T20 Blast game will be played at the County Ground, Hove. The average first innings score at this venue in T20s last year was 168 and we expect a good contest between bat and ball.

Sussex Sharks have good depth in their bowling attack but we think that their batting line-up could be a little light at the moment. Somerset, on the other hand, have quality throughout their team and looked very determined on Wednesday. We are backing Somerset to be too strong and to win this match.
