KKR have won five of their eight matches with Delhi Capitals on the same number of points but from two additional games. Read on as we preview this clash. The game begins in Kolkata at 19:30 local time on Monday 29th April.
KKR thought they were home and dry after posting 261/6 batting first against Punjab Kings on Friday but the pitch seemed to get easier to bat on as the match progressed and they lost with 8 balls remaining. We can expect an even more aggressive batting approach in this game as a result.
Delhi Capitals are certainly the most improved side in the tournament and they have completely turned their season around from the point when they had only one win from the first five matches! They will arrive in Kolkata full of confidence but this will be a very tough clash.

Mitchell Starc was left out of KKR’s XI for the last game with the team management briefing to the media that he had a slight injury. However, most pundits believed it was more due to his lack of form. But with KKR taking only one wicket with the ball in the last game, we expect the Australian to return.

There were two new faces in the Delhi Capitals XI on Saturday afternoon at the Arun Jaitley Stadium with South African Lizaad Williams coming into the side along with Kumar Kushagra. Although Williams was wicketless and Kushagra didn’t get to bat, we expect the same XI to be selected for the trip to Kolkata.

Right-arm medium fast bowler Rasikh came into the side again on Saturday and took three wickets whilst having the best economy rate so we expect him to play the same role during the bowling innings in this game.

With both teams in the top five ahead of Sunday’s game, it is no surprise that we have so many top performing players on show in this match. Delhi Capitals will take some stopping but we think KKR are the stronger side.
Sunil Narine, Rinku Singh and Phil Salt are our batting tips for KKR. There was plenty of surprise on Friday evening when Rinku Singh did not appear until the penultimate over of the batting innings and we expect to see him come to the crease earlier in this game with his clean hitting and high strike-rate batting. Salt has had an excellent last six months of cricket and the fearless opener has scores of 89, 48 and 75 across his last four innings.
With the bat, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Tristan Stubbs and Rishabh Pant are our picks for Delhi Capitals. South African Stubbs has not taken as much of the limelight as Fraser-McGurk but he has also been posting some remarkable numbers. He comes into this match with an average of 68.25 and a strike-rate of 192.25 in the tournament. Pant is Delhi’s leading run scorer in the campaign and he has gone past 50 on three occasions.
For KKR, Mitchell Starc, Sunil Narine and Harshit Rana are our bowling choices. Rana has best T20 figures of 3/33 and he has only played in 19 T20 games but has already caught the eye with his express pace! Starc also bowls with excellent pace and his yorkers are legendary across the globe. The experienced Australian has taken 177 T20 wickets across his career.
Our bowling recommendations are Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar and Rasikh Salam for Delhi Capitals. Rasikh got the key wickets of Hardik Pandya, Nehal Wadhera and Mohammad Nabi on Saturday and now has six wickets from his last two matches. Mukesh is Delhi’s leading wicket taker in this campaign so far and he will travel to Kolkata with a strike-rate of 11.76.
Both of these teams have fearless batting line-ups as well as bowling attacks who have been hit around a fair bit across the tournament. As such, this could well be another high-scoring contest at Eden Gardens. We are predicting both teams to score over 240 but we think that KKR will benefit from their greater experience at home and will have learnt from their defeat on Friday to Punjab Kings. Our prediction is for KKR to win a close clash.
