South Africa were handed a reality check as Sri Lanka women defeated them by seven wickets in the second T20I. The team could only score 137-8 in 20 overs before Sri Lanka chased the target in the 19th over. Sri Lanka have time and again showed that they can’t be taken lightly in this format of the game so South Africa should be wary of them.
Laura Wolvaardt, Marizanne Kapp and Anneke Bosch will be key batters. Wolvaardt scored a magnificent hundred in the first game but she did not play the second game. She is expected to return. Also, Marizanne Kapp backed her 60 run inning with 44 in the second T20I. Bosch made 50 in the last game.
The bowling will rest on Marizanne Kapp, Masabata Klaas and T Sekhukhune. All three bowled well in the second game but the runs were too few to defend. The aforementioned players are genuine wicket-takers and can be backed to come good in the third match.
South Africa lot to Australia in the last series and would like to win the series against Sri Lanka at all costs.
Laura Wolvaardt (c), K Mesi (wk), Tazmin Brits, Nadine de Klerk, Chloe Tryon, Marizanne Kapp, Annerie Derecksen, Masabata Klaas, Sune Luus, Nonkululeko Mlaba, T Sekhukhune
Sri Lanka women will be delighted with the result of the second game but they will be aware that South Africa women will come back hard. Sri Lanka have shown moments of brilliance at times but ran out of gas very soon. They will be eyeing consistent performances in the games to come.
Chamari Attapattu, Hashita Madavi and Kavisha Dilhari can be backed to perform well. Attapattu has failed in both games but she is Sri Lanka’s best player. Madavi scored 38 in the first game but could only score 12 in the second match. Dihari batted well in the second T20I and made 45 in 28 balls.
Attapattu, Udeshika Prabodhani and Inoshi Priyadarshani will be the main bowlers for Sri Lanka women. All bowlers were outstanding in the second game, bowling tight lines and getting crucial wickets. .Attapattu and Prayadarshani picked a wicket each while Udeshika bowled at an economy of just six runs per over.
Sri Lanka have blown hot and cold so far but the win in the second T20I will give them confidence.
