Who will win Somerset vs Kent, Vitality T20 Blast 2019?

Somerset and Kent Spitfires face each other at Taunton in the South Group of the 2019 Vitality Blast. The match takes place on August 10 and the live action begins at 19:00 local time.

Kent go into the game on the back of two defeats in their last three matches, but the Spitfires had won five in a row before that to prove their form. They are well-placed for a top-four finish and a win on this batting-friendly pitch will keep them on target.

Somerset, on the other hand, have won two of their last three but only three from seven in total – prior to Friday’s match at Hampshire. The hosts need to maintain their recent improved form if they are to stay on course to reach the quarter-finals.

Somerset won the toss and elected to chase in their most recent home game – which proved a successful tactic. The hosts know the Taunton pitch well and Tom Abell will want to win the toss again.

SOM vs KENT Weather Report

While it could be windy in Somerset, it should be dry in Taunton for a full evening of cricket.

SOM vs KENT Pitch Condition

Somerset Team News & Playing 11

SOM Team News

Jamie Overton was replaced by Tim Groenewald as Somerset got back to winning ways against Essex. While Friday’s game against Hampshire could alter their thinking, Somerset may be unchanged from the team which beat the Eagles.

SOM Key Players

Babar Azam: After a strong finish to the World Cup, the Pakistani batsman has continued in the same vein in this tournament. He has scored three half-centuries, including an unbeaten 95 in the first meeting with Hamsphire. At home, he has hit 95*, 83 and 43 in Somerset’s three matches a Taunton so far.

Tom Banton: The wicket-keeper-batsman had scored 295 runs in seven innings prior to the Hampshire game. The 20-year-old has been consistent, with scores of 51, 71, 41 and 39 in his last four innings before Friday.

Roelof van der Merwe: Allowed to stay with Somerset instead of facing the UAE with the Netherlands, Van der Merwe took ten wickets in Somerset’s first seven matches with a useful economy rate of 7.92 runs per over. That includes his excellent 5-32 last time out.

SOM Team Form

Prior to facing Hampshire, Somerset had got back on track with two wins in three games in August. They chased 204 to beat Surrey by eight wickets in the first of those matches, with Tom Banton top-scoring with 71. Next up, they scored 180 all out in reply to Middlesex’s 215/4 but they were back on track last time out – Somerset blasted 225/6 from their 20 overs against Essex Eagles and Roelof van der Merwe then claimed 5-32 as they bowled Essex out for 111.

Kent Team News & Playing 11

KENT Team News

Mitchell Claydon played instead of Grant Stewart in the mid-week defeat to Gloucestershire, in the Spitfires’ only change from the low-scoring win against Hampshire. Imran Qayyum, after a good start to the tournament, has not featured in the last two matches. Sam Billings is yet to feature due to a shoulder injury, while Joe Denly has been unavailable due to his England commitments.

KENT Key Players

Daniel Bell-Drummond: The Spitfires’ captain was the only Kent batsman to show good form last time out – hitting 62 from 56 balls at the top of the order. He is now the Spitfires’ top run-scorer with 205 from eight matches.

Hardus Viljoen: The top wicket-taker in the tournament so far, he has claimed 16 wickets in eight matches so far.

Mohammad Nabi: The Afghan all-rounder has scored 147 runs in eight matches so far, while his spin-bowling has brought seven wickets at an economy rate of 6.59 runs per over.

KENT Team Form

After winning five games in a row, Kent Spitfires have won one of their last three. They bounced back from a heavy nine-wicket defeat to fellow high-flyers Sussex by beating Hampshire in a low-scoring game last weekend. The Spitfires bowled Hampshire out for 135 and won by four wickets with one ball to spare.

Last time out, however, despite Daniel Bell-Drummond’s 62, they could only post 125/8 against Gloucestershire and fell to a five-wicket defeat.

SOM vs Kent Dream11 Prediction

Wicket-keepers

Ollie Robinson scored a half-century for Kent Spitfires when these teams last met, while Tom Banton has been a big scorer on the Dream 11 platform this season for Somerset. Banton is just 8.5 credits and well worth picking up, but Robinson is a fairly safe pick too.

Batsmen

Babar Azam has been in top form at the top of the order for Somerset and his price reflects that, but he is still a must-pick. Daniel Bell-Drummond and Heino Kuhn each come in at nine credits for the Spitfires, meanwhile. Further down the order, Alex Blake and Tom Abell are both 8.5 credits, with the latter potentially a good pick.

All-rounders

Roelof van der Merwe’s five-for makes him worth picking up, showing exactly the danger he can bring with the ball. Mohammad Nabi is another player that costs ten credits, but he has shown repeatedly what he can do with bat and ball.

Bowlers

There is still enough in the bank to make sure you snap up in-form Hardus Viljoen at nine credits. Adam Milne is the same cost but also in decent form, as is Somerset’s Jerome Taylor. For Somerset, however, Craig Overton may be slightly better value  at 8.5 credits.

Captain/vice-captain

Babar Azam’s excellent batting form makes him hard to look past, while Tom Banton has some big Dream 11 points next to his name too. On the bowling front, Hardus Viljoen has picked up wickets consistently. Azam’s batting makes him a good pick for captain, Viljoen is a worthy vice-captain option.
