Kamran Akmal was the second highest run-scorer in last year’s competition, meanwhile, and he also arrives in good form having starred for Lahore Whites in the National T20 Cup. He scored 54, 28, 93 and 42 in his last four innings in that competition, with the latter the top score as the Whites won the final. Riaz claimed 1-26 from four overs in that same final.
Hasan Ali will lead the bowling attack with Riaz, meanwhile, fresh from his appearances for Pakistan against South Africa. He needs three more wickets to reach 100 in T20 cricket, having previously played 78 matches in the format.Captain Darren Sammy’s experience will be key too, meanwhile. He offers another option with bat and ball but has also led West Indies to World T20 victory as captain.

Peshawar Zalmi finished third last season courtesy of two wins in their last two games and they then used that momentum as they beat Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings to reach the final. Going into the game on a run of four straight wins, they were blown away by Islamabad United, however. Restricted to 148/9 from their 20 overs, they could not defend it – losing by three wickets with 19 balls to spare.

Quetta Gladiators initially drafted 15-year-old bowler Naseem Shah but he has had to drop out through injury. Sunil Narine, Shane Watdson, Rilee Rossouw, Anwar Ali, Umar Akmal, Sohail Tanvir, Mohammad Nawaz and Sarfraz Ahmed were all on their retained list.

Anwar Ali almost pulled victory from the jaws of defeat in last year’s eliminator between Quetta and Peshawar. His 23 runs off the final over proved not quite enough but did showcase his big-hitting ability with the bat.
On the topic of big-hitting, Rilee Rossouw returns in top form after a string of fine performances for the Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League. He scored 558 runs in the tournament – more than any other batsman – having hit five half-centuries and one unbeaten 100.
Sohail Tanvir was a late addition to the Sylhet Sixers’ line-up in that competition but still managed nine wickets in seven games – six of which came in his last three. He has 311 wickets in 308 T20 appearances.
Sunil Narine starred with bat and ball for Dhaka Dynamites, meanwhile, taking plenty of wickets and bowling with a consistently brilliant economy rate. He also chipped in with some useful runs and is capable of opening the batting and coming into the middle order.

Quetta Gladiators won five and drew five of their ten matches last season, finishing fourth in the league stage after losing their last two matches. That proved costly too, as they then lost to Peshawar Zalmi in the eliminator – despite Anwar Ali’s 23 runs from the final over, in a thrilling match which saw them finish on 156/9 in reply to Peshawar’s 157 all out.

They each won one of the two league matches last season, but Peshawar claimed a thrilling win in the eliminator play-off. Batting first, Liam Dawson’s 62 from 35 balls helped them to 157 all out as Rahat Ali claimed 4-16 with the ball. In reply, Quetta needed 50 from the last six overs with six wickets remaining but found themselves 133/8 at the start of the final over. The Gladiators do boast a lot of batting firepower, including in-form Rilee Rossouw, who is generously 7.50 to be the top batsman after his superb form in the Bangladesh Premier League.
Peshawar Zalmi will need runs at the top of the order looking at their likely batting line-up, but they are 1.90 to post the highest opening partnership with Betway (Quetta are 1.80). Should they do so, they could claim another thrilling win in this fixture.
