Perth Scorchers Women are favourites to win
Perth Scorchers Women will take on Hobart Hurricanes Women at the WACA, Perth. Match 16 of the 2022 WBBL will get underway at 17:15 local time on Sunday, October 23rd.
Although they were surprisingly beaten by bottom of the table Sydney Thunder Women on Saturday, Perth Scorchers Women are still one of three teams at the top of the table with six points on the board. They have won three and lost one so far in the competition.
It was an uncharacteristically poor batting performance from Perth Scorchers Women against Sydney Thunder Women. Neither opener, Sophie Devine or Beth Mooney, were able to score more than 20 and it was left to bowler Alana King to top score with 29 runs from 16 balls.
Holly Ferling, Lilly Mills and Alana King were the only bowlers to pick up wickets with the ball in a disappointing bowling display from the team on Saturday. Piepa Cleary, who had taken 2-8 in the previous game, went wicketless alongside Sophie Devine and Marizanne Kapp.
The defeat on Saturday was Perth Scorchers Women’s first in 10 WBBL games.
It has been a competitive start to the campaign for Hobart Hurricanes Women who have won two and lost one match so far. They began the tournament by beating Sydney Thunder Women by 19 runs but then lost to Perth Scorchers by eight wickets. However they got back to winning ways against Sydney Thunder Women in Match 10.
South African keeper-batter Lizelle Lee produced her best performance of the season so far when she top scored with 41 runs from 29 balls in the last match. Skipper Elyse Villani is yet to produce her best form and it was Heather Graham who top scored in the last clash with Perth Scorchers Women.
Only Molly Strano and Ruth Johnston took a wicket each when Hobart Hurricanes Women took on Perth Scorchers Women in Match 8. Heather Graham took 2-13 in the second win over Sydney Thunder Women to add to her figures of 3-15 in the first.
Hobart Hurricanes Women will be looking to record their first successive win of the tournament in this match.
The match will be played at the WACA, Perth. 166 is the highest score we have seen on this surface in this tournament so far. We expect spinners to get assistance from the wicket.
