New Zealand are favorites to win
New Zealand have drawn first blood as they beat Bangladesh in the first one-day international at Napier by eight wickets to go 1-0 up in the three-match series. The hosts will now look to seal the series in the second ODI which will be played on February 16 at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Live telecast of the match is scheduled to begin at 11 AM local time.

The pitch at the Hagley Oval is expected to get a bit slower during the second period of play. And also since four of the last five one-day internationals played at this ground have been won by the side batting first, the team that wins the toss here on Saturday is likely to bat first.

Henry Nicholls will continue to open the batting for New Zealand alongside Martin Guptill in the absence of Colin Munro who was not picked for the first two one-day internationals. Tim Southee and Todd Astle were the ones to sit out and they will probably have to wait a bit more for their turn as the Kiwis are unlikely to make changes to their line-up after securing such a comfortable victory at Napier.
Martin Guptill made an impressive return from injury, smashing an unbeaten 117 to guide New Zealand to victory in the first ODI. The opener is the leading ODI run-getter at the Hagley Oval and one can expect another big knock from him. Tom Latham scored 137 in the only ODI that the Kiwis have played against Bangladesh at this ground and he will look to repeat that performance. Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor along with Henry Nicholls, who hit a fifty at Napier, are the other key figures in this batting line-up. Trent Boult was exceptional with figures of 3-40 and he is likely to cause problems for the Bangladeshi batsmen again. The pacer has taken the most wickets at this ground in ODIs - 16 in 7 matches. Matt Henry has taken 10 wickets here in 4 matches which includes a couple of four-wicket hauls. Mitchell Santner picked three wickets in the last game and he will look to strangle Bangladesh once again in the middle overs.
New Zealand have now won five out of the nine one-day internationals they have played so far this year. After being hammered by India 1-4 in the five-match ODI series, the Kiwis have made a positive start to this series by winning the opening game at Napier by eight wickets. The victory was set up by their bowlers who knocked over Bangladesh for 232 runs and then their batsmen ensured that there were no hiccups during the run-chase.

Despite facing a big defeat in the first ODI, Bangladesh may not make too many changes to their side for the second one-day international. Sabbir Rahman could not contribute much with the bat upon his return to international cricket but he will probably be given another opportunity before the team starts looking for an alternative. The only change that the visitors might make for this game is that they could bring Shafiul Islam in place of Mohammad Saifuddin who was the most expensive of the Bangladeshi bowlers. The rest of their line-up is expected to remain unchanged.
Bangladesh will need their big guns Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah to fire with the bat. They collectively scored just 23 runs in the first ODI and the team will be hoping for a much better performance from this trio. Tamim batted brilliantly in the final of the BPL and it will be crucial that he replicates that form on Saturday. Mohammad Mithun was the only bright spot for Bangladesh in the last game with a knock of 62 and so there will be high expectations from him as well. Mustafizur Rahman and Mashrafe Mortaza failed to pick wickets while Mehidy Hasan managed to pick just one. However, none of them conceded too many runs and the team will want them to continue to bowl tight spells. Mortaza finished with an economy of under 4 and he will look to apply pressure on the Kiwis in the first ten overs.
Bangladesh now have five wins and two losses in their last seven one-day internationals. They came into this series on the back of a 3-0 clean sweep of Zimbabwe and a 2-1 win over the West Indies at home. The visitors suffered an eight-wicket defeat in the first match of the ongoing series against New Zealand. They put on a disappointing show with the bat and a top-order collapse left them reeling at 94-6 at one stage.

New Zealand and Bangladesh have now played 32 one-day internationals against each other with the former leading the scoreline 22-10.
New Zealand have now won six of the last eight ODIs they have played against Bangladesh and all the ten ODIs against them at home.
The two countries have faced each other just once at the Hagley Oval in the fifty-over format. The match was played in December 2016 with the hosts registering a comprehensive 77-run victory.
Matches Played: 32; New Zealand Won: 22; Bangladesh Won: 10
New Zealand begin as hot favorites amongst the bookmakers to win this second one-day international. The hosts are being offered at extremely short odds of 1.14 on Bet365 and 1.11 on Betfair. Bangladesh continue to remain huge underdogs and they have been priced a lot higher at 5.50 on Bet365 and 6.40 on Betfair.
New Zealand's win in the first game has put pressure on Bangladesh who now cannot afford to lose on Saturday. As was expected, the tourists struggled with the bat against a quality Kiwi bowling attack and they will have to bat out of their skins at Christchurch if they are to challenge the hosts. New Zealand will be playing at a venue which has been their fortress in the fifty-over format as they have won eight out of the nine ODIs they have played here. The home team is looking superior in these conditions and we expect them to win this match and seal the series.
