Nottinghamshire are favorites to win
Notts Outlaws will take on Derbyshire Falcons at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. This T20 match begins at 18:30 local time on Friday 26th May.
It was a strange campaign for Notts Outlaws in 2022 as they won each of their last four matches but still did not manage to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament. Ahead of this year’s campaign they have signed Shaheen Shah Afridi and Colin Munro as overseas players.
Notts Outlaws have an exciting group of batters with Alex Hales leading the way at the top of the order. The 34 year old is approaching 11000 T20 runs and he very rarely plays any defensive strokes in this format. Colin Munro and Joe Clarke are both also well worth watching with the bat.
Jake Ball has a fine T20 record and is particularly comfortable bowling at this home ground in spite of the good batting reputation that Trent Bridge has. Luke Fletcher is a reliable bowler but Shaheen Shah Afridi is a match-winner and a great signing for the Outlaws.
A victory over Derbyshire Falcons in this game for Notts Outlaws will see them record their fifth successive victory in the T20 Blast.
Although Derbyshire Falcons were beaten in their opening match of the season, at Edgbaston against Lancashire Lightning on Saturday afternoon, the margin of defeat was only four wickets with four balls remaining. We anticipate the Falcons will select the same players for this game.
Wayne Madsen hit a typically positive half-century against Lightning last weekend with four sixes and three fours in his 35-ball innings. Haider Ali made a golden duck but is an accomplished international player and we expect him to contribute in this match.
Five wickets were shared out between Zaman Khan, Zak Chappell and George Scrimshaw in their opening game with Chappell’s figures of 2-33 standing out. He has been in strong form in 2nd XI cricket this spring and he will enjoy the pace offered at Trent Bridge.
It was not a poor performance from the Falcons against Lancashire Lightning but this will be an equally tough match against Notts Outlaws.
This Vitality T20 Blast game will be played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. We always see pace in the wicket at Trent Bridge and there is a good chance of high scores from both teams.

Joe Clarke, Alex Hales, Colin Munro, Samit Patel, Ben Slater, Tom Moores (wk), Stephen Mullaney (c), Lyndon James, Jake Ball, Calvin Harrison, Shaheen Afridi
Haider Ali, Luis Reece, Wayne Madsen, Leus du Plooy (c), Anuj Dal, Aneurin Donald (wk), Mattie McKiernan, Zak Chappell, Mark Watt, George Scrimshaw, Zaman Khan
Derbyshire Falcons have a strong side and we expect plenty of their team to make runs in this game. However, they do not have many star players and compared to Notts Outlaws, we struggle to see where their big runs or key wickets will come from. Our prediction is for Notts Outlaws to get a win in this their opening clash.
