NZ vs BAN 1st T20 Match Prediction & Betting Tips
After the ODI series concluded on Saturday with Bangladesh losing the series but recording their first ever ODI win over New Zealand in New Zealand, the two teams begin their T20I series on Wednesday evening. The hosts won their last T20I, against England in September, with Bangladesh also winning their last match in this format. Read on as we preview this game. The match begins at 19:10 local time at McLean Park, Napier.
New Zealand will be keen to respond to their ODI defeat with an immediate T20I victory at the same venue in this game. With some of their top international players returning to the side, they should have enough quality to take a lead in the series.
Bangladesh were not expected to win the final ODI but thanks to some brilliant bowling and controlled batting they were able to get the victory with plenty to spare. This is a new series and a new format but the team will have received a much needed boost of confidence.

NZ vs BAN Match Toss Prediction
We have seen two wins for the team batting first, two victories for the team fielding first and a tie across the five T20Is in Napier. Both teams like to get runs on the board first so we predict the captains will choose to bat first if they win the toss.
NZ vs BAN Pitch Report
New Zealand made the pitch at McLean Park look like a bowler’s paradise on Saturday but the truth is that there is something for the bowler but overall the pace and bounce are good for batting. A par score will be 160+.
Napier Weather Report
There could be some rain earlier in the day in Napier but the forecast for Wednesday evening is for cloudy and humid conditions but dry weather throughout.

New Zealand Team News & Playing 11
NZ Team News
After taking the opportunity to try out some new players and new combinations in the ODI series, New Zealand welcome back Daryl Mitchell, Tim Southee, Glenn Phillips, James Neesham and Ish Sodhi for this match. However, Kane Williamson and Kyle Jamieson have both withdrawn from the squad for the series.
NZ Key Players
- Daryl Mitchell - The 32 year old batting all-rounder has scored over 1000 T20I runs and 4000 T20 runs. This will be his first international appearance since signing a lucrative IPL contract with Chennai Super Kings.
- Glenn Phillips - The right-handed middle order batter had an excellent white ball tour of England during August and September. He continued this form into the 2023 Cricket World Cup and is a fine fielder.
- Mitchell Santner - The bowling all-rounder will captain the side in Kane Williamson’s absence and is capable of winning a T20I with either bat or ball.
- Tim Southee - The vastly experienced swing bowler and Test captain will be refreshed ahead of this series after missing the ODIs. He has 144 T20I wickets.
NZ Team Form
New Zealand are an excellent white ball side and come into this game targeting their third successive T20I victory.

Bangladesh Team News & Playing 11
BAN Team News
Although Bangladesh will be without the experienced trio of Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamil Iqbal, they have a group of players who are experienced in both T20 cricket and at international level. Najmul Hossain Shanto will once again captain the side with Tanzim Hasan likely to make his T20I debut.
BAN Key Players
- Soumya Sarkar - The left-handed opener was a surprise inclusion in the touring party but he has already rewarded the selectors with his 169 in the second ODI. Now he needs to deliver in T20I cricket as well.
- Najmul Hossain Shanto - The skipper ended the ODI series with a steady 51 not out from 42 balls. His top score in T20 cricket 115 not out.
- Shoriful Islam - The left-arm opening bowler is very accurate and gets swing back into the right-hander. He has been the star of Bangladesh’s tour so far and finished as the top wicket taker in the ODIs across both sides.
- Mustafizur Rahman - The experienced left-arm pace bowler has an excellent T20 record. He has lost his place in the ODI side but will be one of the leaders of the attack in this game.
BAN Team Form
Bangladesh have been in good form in this format and will be encouraged by their win in the final ODI.
Bangladesh Predicted Playing 11
Soumya Sarkar, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Litton Das (wk), Towhid Hridoy, Tanzim Hasan, Afif Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman

New Zealand vs Bangladesh Betting Odds
Who will win New Zealand vs Bangladesh 1st T20 Match?
Against nearly all opposition in any format, New Zealand are the favourites at home. Particularly with the return of some of their experienced players, we have the Black Caps as the top team ahead of this opening T20I.
🏆 New Zealand vs Bangladesh Prediction
After the surprise victory for Bangladesh in the final ODI, there is perhaps a little bit more interest in this opening game of the T20I series than otherwise would have been the case. However, those expecting Bangladesh to now go on a winning run in New Zealand are likely to be disappointed. The Black Caps often bounce back immediately from a defeat across all formats and with some top players returning, will be a very tough team to play against. Our prediction is for a New Zealand victory in this opening game of the series.
