Khulna Titans Team News & Playing 11

KT Team News

Khulna Titans have kept everybody guessing with the rotation of their overseas players so far. Paul Stirling and David Wiese returned last time, while Brendan Taylor took the gloves. The latter two batted well in a losing cause last time out but Stirling’s duck could mean he is rotated straight back out again. Lasith Malinga has played the last two games, meanwhile, after the conclusion of Sri Lanka’s tour of New Zealand. Malinga was expensive last time out, and Junaid Khan is surely set to return to support the Sri Lankan this time – perhaps in place of Stirling.

KT Key Players

Junaid Khan is surely due a recall, having taken eight wickets in the three matches he has played so far – including 4-32 in the defeat to Comilla Victorians in his most recent appearances. Lasith Malinga will hope to show the form he showed with Sri Lanka in New Zealand, meanwhile, where he took nine wickets in his four limited-overs appearances.

David Wiese did return last time out and scored 40 from 20 balls with the bat after taking 2-26 from his four overs bowling. Brendan Taylor (28 from 16 balls) and Mahmudullah (50 from 26 balls) also made useful contributions with the bat, albeit in a losing cause, but at least it shows some form in the middle order.

At the top of the order, Junaid Siddique has now passed 200 runs for this year’s tournament.

KT Team Form

Khulna Titans started the Sylhet phase of fixtures with their first win of the tournament and showed generally improved batting performances thereafter, but they lost two since to take them to one win in seven games.

Their first game in Sylhet saw them restricted to 128/9 from their 20 overs, but Taijul Islam took 3-10 and Junaid Khan claimed 3-26 as the Titans bowled Rajshahi Kings out for 103 to win by 25 runs.

Next up, an improved batting performance led by Junaid Siddique’s 70 from 41 balls saw the Titans post 181/7. Junaid Khan claimed 4-32 in reply but the Comilla Victorians reached their target to claim a three-wicket win with two balls remaining.

Last time out, meanwhile, the Titans conceded this season’s highest BPL score of 214/4 against Chittagong Vikings. Mahmudullah scored 50 from 26 balls to top score in the reply but the run rate proved too much – they finished 188/8 and lost by 26 runs.

Khulna Titans Predicted Playing 11

Jahurul Islam, Junaid Siddique, Brendan Taylor, Mahmudullah, Al-Amin, David Wiese, Ariful Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Taijul Islam, Lasith Malinga, Junaid Khan

Rangpur Riders Team News & Playing 11

RGR Team News

Rangpur Riders gambled on a hugely aggressive batting line-up as they welcomed AB de Villiers to the squad for the latter half of this season. The gamble – fielding an overseas quartet of Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, Rilee Rossouw and AB de Villiers – paid off, however, in a four-wicket win against Sylhet Sixers. Only Gayle – the hero of last season’s final – failed to post a score and the gamble could be repeated, even if Benny Howell was missed as a bowling option.

RGR Key Players

AB de Villiers wasted no time making an impact in BPL 2019, scoring 34 from 21 balls in his first appearance to fully live up to his billing. Alex Hales scored 33 from 24 balls, meanwhile, to justify the faith paid in him after recent poor scores and if the two can continue to fire, that is one dangerous top order – and that’s before you consider Chris Gayle and Rilee Rossouw.

Gayle, a modern-day icon thanks to his explosive T20 batting, may have fallen short last time out, but you only have to look at his heroics in the play-off and final last season to see what he is capable of at this level. As for Rossouw, he has now scored four half-centuries and 349 runs in this year’s tournament – adding 61 from 35 balls last time out.

Mashrafe Mortaza moved to 12 wickets last time out, meanwhile – including 4-11 in the win against Comilla Victorians – as he claimed 2-31 from his four overs. Shafiul Islam was more expensive but did claim his 13th wicket of the tournament and eighth in the last four games.

RGR Team Form

Rangpur Riders ended a three-match losing streak last time out, when they chased Sylhet Sixers’ 194/4 to win by four wickets with three balls remaining. Rilee Rossouw top-scored with 61 from 35 balls.

Rossouw had also scored a half-century in the defeat to the Sixers that preceded that game – Rangpur Riders posting 160/6 to fall short of their target of 188 to win.

Prior to that, the Riders lost to Rajshahi Kings and Dhaka Dynamites. The former saw them finish six runs short of Rajshahi Kings’ 135/8 from 20 overs, as they struggled to keep up with the run rate in the middle overs. The latter, meanwhile, was despite Rossouw smashing 83 from 44 balls in reply to 183/9. They were well placed until they lost late wickets and finished stranded on 181/9.

Rangpur Riders Predicted Playing 11

Rilee Rossouw, Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, AB de Villiers, Mohammad Mithun, Shafiul Islam, Mashrafe Mortaza, Nahidul Islam, Farhad Reza, Nazmul Islam, Sohag Gazi

Khulna Titans vs Rangpur Riders Head to Head

Rangpur Riders’ defeat of Khulna Titans when they met in the first phase of fixtures was their third win in a row in this fixture and fifth in six previous games in all. They won two of their three games last season, including a Chris Gayle-powered play-off win, as he hit 14 sixes in his 126 not out, in an eight-wicket win chasing 167/6.

This season, Rilee Rossouw hit an unbeaten 76 from 52 balls in a total of 169/3, including an unbeaten century partnership with Ravi Bopara (40* from 29). Paul Stirling hit 61 in reply, and shared an opening stand of 90 with Junaid Siddique (33) but the Titans fell short on 161/5.

Khulna Titans vs Rangpur Riders Betting Odds

Given Khulna Titans’ form this season, it is no surprise to see Rangpur Riders favourites at 1.61 with Bet365 and 1.62 with Betfair and Betway. Khulna Titans are 2.30 to win with the former.

The Riders gambled on an explosive top four last time out, and if they repeat that quartet of overseas stars this time they should live up to their billing of favourites to top score in the first six overs. Bet365 are offering 1.66 on the Riders.

Top run scorer Rilee Rossouw has hit four half-centuries so far, and he is 4.50 to be the Riders’ top batsman. AB de Villiers showed form last time out and is 4.00, as is Alex Hales, while Chris Gayle can never be written off – as the Titans learned in last season’s play-off. The West Indian is 3.40 to top score for Rangpur.

Khulna Titans’ batting has improved of late but their bowling has been expensive and that could be dangerous against a potential top four of Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, Rilee Rossouw and AB de Villiers.

Final Verdict: Back Rangpur Riders to beat Khulna Titans at 1.61 with Bet365 and 1.62 with Betfair and Betway.
