India women are favorites to win
India Women will take on Bangladesh Women at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Ground 2. Match 13 in the Round-robin stage of the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup gets underway on Friday 7th October at 13:30 local time.
There was a surprise defeat for India Women as their rivals Pakistan Women beat them by 13 runs on Friday afternoon. The loss was India Women’s first of the tournament but they are still top of the group with six points from four matches.
It was a very disappointing batting performance from India Women on Friday with keeper-batter Richa Ghosh top scoring from number eight with 26 runs from 13 balls. Although Jemimah Rodrigues contributed only two runs from eight balls against Pakistan Women, she is still the leading run scorer in the tournament.
India Women have only dismissed the opposition in one of their four matches in the competition, although they only had 5.2 overs at Malaysia Women before the rain ended that fixture. Against Pakistan Women, Deepti Sharma took 3-27 to go level at the top of the wicket takers list with six dismissals.
India Women had been in excellent form in this campaign but the defeat to Pakistan Women was a big shock. It will be interesting to see how they respond in this match.
The hosts have won two of their three matches so far in the tournament. They opened the competition with a nine wicket victory over Thailand Women but then lost by the same margin against Pakistan Women. However, they got back to winning ways with an 88 run victory over Malaysia Women.
Nigar Sultana is Bangladesh Women’s leading run scorer in the campaign but has not top scored for the side in any of the three matches. During the big win over Malaysia Women, left-hander Murshida Khatun top scored with 56 runs from 54 balls.
31 year old leg-spinner, Rumana Ahmed, has been the pick of the Bangladesh Women’s bowling attack so far in the tournament and has combined figures of 5-17 from six overs bowled. She has a very impressive average of 3.40 and a strike-rate of 7.2.
Bangladesh Women have combined two big wins with one large defeat so far in the competition.
The match will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Ground 2. Pace bowlers have been able to control the economy rate on this pitch but it is the spinners who continue to carry the biggest wicket taking threat.
