Toss Prediction
'Win the toss and field first' has been the trend at Dharamsala. And also since two out of the three one-day internationals at this venue have been won by the side that has fielded first, the team that wins the toss here on Sunday will probably elect to bowl first.

India Team News & Playing 11
Team News
Rohit Sharma is set to lead the team in the absence of Virat Kohli who has been rested for the series. Allrounder Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar who missed the test series have returned for the ODIs. The selectors have also roped in two uncapped players - pace bowler Siddarth Kaul and batsman Shreyas Iyer.
Key Players
Rohit Sharma looked in great touch having made a century and two fifties in the two tests he played. His opening partnership with Shikhar Dhawan is going to be crucial for India. With Ajinkya Rahane not in full flow, it will be down to Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni to anchor the rest of the innings with Hardik Pandya playing the role of a finisher. Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar form a threatening seam attack while Yuzvendra Chahal could also trouble the Lankans with his deceptive legbreaks.
Recent Form
India are in a terrific ODI form at the moment. Their most recent action in this format came against New Zealand at home - a three-game series which they ended up winning 2-1. Prior to that, they defeated Australia 4-1 in what was another home series.

Sri Lanka Team News & Playing 11
Team News
Thisara Perera has replaced Upul Tharanga as Sri Lanka's limited-overs captain. Kusal Perera who was last seen in action in the ICC Champions Trophy has returned and so have allrounder Asela Gunaratne, pace bowler Nuwan Pradeep and Dhananjaya de Silva. Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis could not find a place in the 16-man ODI squad.
Key Players
Former skipper Upul Tharanga who is the leading ODI run-getter for Sri Lanka from this squad will be the key batsman at the top. Niroshan Dickwella and Lahiru Thirimanne are also expected to do well here with Angelo Mathews being their best man in the middle order. Suranga Lakmal was the most impressive bowler in the test series and he will be a big threat with the new ball. Nuwan Pradeep and Thisara Perera are the other bowlers to watch out for.
Recent Form
Sri Lanka, in recent times, have struggled big time in the 50-overs format. They are coming off three consecutive series defeats, the first of which was lost to Zimbabwe 2-3 at home. The Lankans then suffered 0-5 whitewashes against India (again at home) and Pakistan in the UAE.

India vs Sri Lanka Head to Head
India and Sri Lanka have played 144 one-day internationals against each other in the past. While the former have won 88 of those, the latter have won 55 with the remaining one game having resulted in a tie. The two teams have never faced each other in an ODI at Dharamsala.
India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Prediction
Sri Lanka will take a lot of heart from their gritty batting display on the fifth day of the final test at the Feroz Shah Kotla and they will also be relieved to see India without Virat Kohli who became a thorn in the flesh for them during the test series. But while this could fuel some optimism into the side, the visitors at the same time will be aware of their dismal record in ODIs of late. The Lankans are on a 12-match losing streak and they know that they will have to click together as a unit to overcome this Indian side that has beaten them 10 times in the last 11 ODI meetings. India still look superior here and so we predict them to win this opening game of the series.
Final Verdict: Back India to beat Sri Lanka in the first ODI.
