India and South Africa begin their five-match IT20 series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Thursday evening. The hosts have won their last 12 IT20s and beat Sri Lanka 3-0 in February in their last games in this format. South Africa have not played an IT20 game since the T20 World Cup in November 2021. India began the 2021 T20 World Cup with successive defeats to Pakistan and New Zealand but have beaten every team who they have played since. They will be looking forward to this series on home soil.
South Africa beat England in their final game in this format and have plenty of players who were in good form during the 2022 IPL. Although underdogs, they will not be overawed ahead of this game.

With full-time captain Rohit Sharma given a break, and KL Rahul suffering a groin injury on Wednesday, Rishabh Pant will lead the side in this series. Hardik Pandya, who impressed captaining Gujarat Titans in the IPL, will be vice-captain.
India are in fantastic form in this format and won their last three IT20 games by 62 runs, 7 wickets and 6 wickets against Sri Lanka. All the players will be game-ready after the conclusion of this year’s IPL.

Although it is over seven months since South Africa played a game in this format, they will be looking to build on their four successive victories from their final T20 World Cup games.
