Who Will Win Eng vs Pak 2nd Test?

Pakistan did the unexpected in the opening test at the Lord's, decimating the hosts to register a thumping nine-wicket win inside four days. The two teams will now head off to the Headingley in Leeds for the second and final game as England look to bounce back and square the series. The match will be played from June 1 with live telecast scheduled to begin at 11 AM local time each day.

Toss Prediction

There have been three first-innings scores of around 300 or more in the last five test matches played at the Headingley which shows that the wicket here has been pretty good for batting at the start. Moreover since four of the past five tests at this venue have been won by the side batting first, the team that wins the toss in this match is more likely to bat first.

England Team News & Playing 11

Team News

Owing to his poor run of form in test cricket, Mark Stoneman has been dropped from the squad for the second test and has been replaced by Keaton Jennings who will now take up the opening position alongside Alastair Cook. Stoneman returned single-digit scores at the Lord's and he has not scored more than 60 in his 20 test innings. Jennings, on the other hand, has shown good form in county cricket and has hit three hundreds in his last seven innings. England are expected to make one more change ahead of the Headingley test. They could bring in Chris Woakes for Mark Wood who took just two wickets in the opening game. Woakes has more experience at test level; he has played almost twice the number of matches than Wood and has taken twice the number of wickets.

Key Players

Alastair Cook top-scored with 70 for England in the first innings of the Lord's test. He is the most experienced batsman in this line-up and has scored the most test runs for the team. Joe Root is third on the ICC test rankings for batsmen and is coming off a well-compiled 68. Jos Buttler continued his rich vein of form from the IPL, scoring an impressive 67 in the second innings. James Anderson is currently the second best bowler in test cricket and he will be England's best bet to provide the early breakthroughs. The hosts will also expect strong bowling performances from Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes who took three wickets in the first innings. Anderson and Broad have shared 70 wickets between them in the combined 17 tests they have played at this ground.

Recent Form

England have not been able to secure a win in their last eight test matches- they have lost six and drawn two of those. The heavy loss to Pakistan in the first game was their third defeat in the four tests they have played this year. While their bowlers did a pretty decent job at the Lord's, their batsmen showed lack of application and made some poor shot selections which eventually cost them the match.

England Predicted Playing 11

Pakistan Team News & Playing 11

Team News

Pakistan have been dealt a big blow as key batsman Babar Azam has been ruled out of the second test match with a fractured forearm. He sustained the injury while batting on Day 2 of the Lord's test when he was hit on the left arm off the bowling of England all-rounder Ben Stokes. With Babar likely to remain out of action for 4-6 weeks, the visitors will be required to make a forced change for this game and could replace him with one of the other three specialist batsmen in the squad - Sami Aslam, Fakhar Zaman and Usman Salahuddin. The Pakistan selectors could prefer Aslam as he is the only one among the three to have some test experience under his belt.

Key Players

After a couple of single-digit scores in the Ireland test, Azhar Ali seems to have sprung back to form. The opening batsman hit a fifty at Lord's and he also has a fifty in the only test match he has played at the Headingley. Asad Shafiq too has been impressive so far on this tour with scores of 62 and 59 against Ireland and England respectively while Haris Sohail is coming off decent contributions in three of his previous four innings. The new-ball pair of Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Abbas looks the most threatening in this Pakistani bowling attack. The former took a match-haul of five wickets and has seven wickets from the one test at this ground while the latter claimed a four-fer in each innings of the Lord's test. The visitors will also have their hopes pinned on Hasan Ali who took four wickets in the first innings.

Recent Form

Pakistan have won both the test matches they have played this year. Their comprehensive nine-wicket win at the Lord's will boost their confidence going into this series decider. They have been brilliant with the ball and equally good with the bat so far on this tour. Their bowlers made excellent use of the conditions in the first test and took the game away from England after dismissing them for just 184 in the first innings.

Pakistan Predicted Playing 11

Azhar Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Haris Sohail, Asad Shafiq, Fakhar Zaman/Sami Aslam, Sarfraz Ahmed (c/wk), Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Amir, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Abbas

England vs Pakistan Head to Head

Out of the 82 test matches played between these two nations in the past, 24 have been won by England and 21 by Pakistan. The rest of the 37 matches have all ended in stalemates.

Pakistan have now won eight and drawn one of the last eleven test matches they have played against England. Their crushing nine-wicket victory over the hosts at the Lord's was their second consecutive win against them in the game's longest format.

England, however, have a much better record at Headingley. They have played Pakistan nine times here in this format and have emerged winners on five of those occasions. The hosts have faced defeat in just one game while three have resulted in draws.

Total Matches: 82; England Won: 24; Pakistan Won: 21, Draw: 37

England vs Pakistan Betting Odds

England, despite being blown away at the Lord's by Pakistan, are overwhelming favorites amongst the bookmakers to win the second test at short odds of 1.57 on Betway, 1.53 on Bet365 and 1.61 on Betfair. Pakistan outperformed the hosts in all aspects of the game and have lost on just two occasions in their last eleven meetings against them in the longest format. But the tourists still find themselves as the bookmakers' underdogs for this match at odds of 4.33 on Betway, 4.50 on Bet365 and 4.80 on Betfair. The odds for this game to end in a draw currently stand at 5, 5.50 and 5.70 with the respective bookmakers.

🏆 England vs Pakistan Prediction

Since 1997, Headingley has hosted 18 test matches of which 17 have yielded results. So wagering on a draw here does not seem worth a gamble, especially considering the kind of bowling attack possessed by these two teams.

Pakistan were clinical in the first game in all three departments and they have left England shell shocked after putting up such a dominant performance. The visitors have taken the lead and this being just a two-game series, the hosts now find themselves under a lot of pressure as they need to win this match to prevent a third straight series defeat. England, however, should draw confidence from their good test record against Pakistan at this venue - they have won two and drawn one of their last three face-offs here. Pakistan too are a side that is not known for its consistency, especially when playing overseas. So although Joe Root's boys may have started their new home test summer on a losing note, we feel they will come back strongly at Leeds to square the series 1-1.

Final Verdict: Back England to beat Pakistan at 1.57 on Betway, 1.53 on Bet365 and 1.61 on Betfair.
