Durham Team News & Playing 11
DUR Team News
Durham don't seem to have any injury issues to deal with ahead of their quarter-final clash with Sussex. They dropped batsman Ryan Pringle and brought in seam bowler James Weighell in their last completed match against Lancashire. Since the latter stands a good chance of being retained, we expect Durham to go in with an unchanged line-up for this match.
DUR Key Players
Durham's batting is going to rely largely on their opening pair of Tom Latham and Graham Clark. Skipper Latham has scored the most runs for the side in this year's Vitality Blast - 454 runs which includes four half-centuries - which makes him the key man with the bat. Clark has three fifties to his name and he has chipped in with a few handy contributions every now and then. However, the team will also expect veteran Paul Collingwood to step up and fire in this crunch game. With the ball, Durham will bank on their pace bowlers Mark Wood, Nathan Rimmington and James Weighell to deliver the goods. Rimmington is currently second on the season's wickets charts with 22 wickets in 13 matches and he seems the biggest threat in this attack. Weighell too has bowled pretty well and has 13 wickets to show for his efforts in 12 matches.
DUR Recent Form
Durham have been one of the more consistent teams in this year's Vitality Blast. They have finished second on the North Group's points table at the end of the league stage with nine wins and four losses from fourteen matches. After winning three matches in a row, Durham suffered a massive 65-run defeat to Lancashire at home before their final league game against Derbyshire was washed out due to rain. Their bowling has been pretty good and they have managed to restrict their opponents to under 150 twice in their last three matches.
Durham Predicted Playing 11
Tom Latham (c), Graham Clark, Paul Collingwood, Will Smith, Ryan Davies, Stuart Poynter (wk), James Weighell, Mark Wood, Nathan Rimmington, Chris Rushworth, Ben Whitehead
Sussex Team News & Playing 11
SOM Team News
Luke Wright has returned to the side replacing Harry Finch and has regained captaincy from Danny Briggs. Sussex are now without the services of their key man Rashid Khan who has been called up by Afghanistan for international duty. Leg-spinner Will Beer was brought in as a like-for-like replacement in the last game against Middlesex, and his impressive performance should earn him retention. Sussex, therefore, are likely to be unchanged for this match.
SOM Key Players
Laurie Evans has been the best batsman for Sussex this season. He is their leading run-getter with 491 runs which comprises five half-centuries. Apart from him, the team will look to their openers Luke Wright and Philip Salt to score the big runs in this match. Both are coming off match-winning knocks of 74 and 66 respectively against Middlesex and they can cause problems for Durham if not dismissed early on in their innings. In the absence of Rashid Khan, Sussex will turn to their next best options in Jofra Archer, Tymal Mills and David Wiese when it comes to bowling. Archer has taken 17 wickets in 12 matches and he is more likely to trouble the Durham batsmen. Danny Briggs was the pick of the bowlers last time out with figures of 2-22 from four overs and he too could make an impact here with his left-arm spin.
SOM Recent Form
After losing to Somerset by three wickets at home, Sussex came back strongly to win their next three completed fixtures on the trot and end the league round on a high. They finished third in the South Group standings having won seven and lost three of their fourteen matches. Sussex played their last match against Middlesex at their home ground - the County Ground in Hove - where they registered a convincing 31-run victory.
Sussex Predicted Playing 11
Luke Wright (c), Philip Salt, Laurie Evans, Delray Rawlins, David Wiese, Michael Burgess (wk), Jofra Archer, Chris Jordan, Will Beer, Danny Briggs, Tymal Mills
