Colombo Stars will take on Kandy Falcons at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium. Match 2 of the 2022 Lanka Premier League gets underway at 19:30 local time on Tuesday 6th December.

Colombo Stars

It was a case of ‘can do better’ for Colombo Stars in the 2021 LPL. They finished in third place in the group stage but then were eliminated by fourth placed Dambulla Giants in the Eliminator. They have recruited well since last year and we expect them to be very competitive in this match.

CS Batting

Colombo Stars looked to the experienced Dinesh Chandimal last year and he averaged 46.16 from nine innings. Runs should not be a problem for the Stars in 2022 with Angelo Mathews captaining the team, Chandimal back for more and Romario Shepherd very dangerous down the order.

CS Bowling

The experienced leg-spinner, Seekkuge Prasanna, was Colombo Stars’ most dangerous bowler during the 2021 tournament and we expect the 37 year old to get plenty of turn on this pitch. England’s Benny Howell is regular wicket taker in white ball cricket across the world.

CS Form

Colombo Stars lost two of their last three matches in 2021 and will be looking to turn their form around here.

Kandy Falcons

There are very few positives for Kandy Falcons to point to from last year’s tournament and their initial goal will be to post more than the four points they secured across the entire campaign in 2021. They were beaten by 58 runs in the final group stage game by Colombo Stars to conclude the last competition.

KF Batting

Although captain Wanindu Hasaranga is most a threat with the ball in hand, he is also a fine middle-order big hitter. We would not be surprised to see him push himself up the order at times in this tournament and maybe in this game. He will be looking to Carlos Brathwaite and Najibullah Zadran to deliver big scores for the team.

KF Bowling

None of the bowlers for Kandy took more than 10 wickets in 2021 but we expect Wanindu Hasaranga to be one of the best bowlers in this game and also to challenge for the top wicket taker in the tournament. Fabian Allen is vastly experienced and picks up wickets in most competitions and conditions.

KF Form

Kandy Falcons lost three of their last four matches in the 2021 LPL.
