The bookmakers are predicting a close contest ahead of this game. KKR are the slight favourites at 1.85 with Mumbai Indians the narrow outsiders at 1.95.
Mumbai Indians certainly have a team packed with international stars but it is KKR who have the players who have consistently performed this campaign. As a result, we have KKR as the top team.
For KKR, Sunil Narine, Phil Salt and Rinku Singh are our batting recommendations. Left-handed middle-order player Rinku has not hit the same heights as in last season’s IPL but he has still been named as a reserve player for India in the 2024 T20 World Cup and a big score will not be far away. Salt hit back to back T20I centuries for England in December and his confidence has been sky high ever since.
Our batting tips are Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma for Mumbai Indians. Rohit comes into this match after a run of poor scores but he has hit 11486 T20 runs across his career including eight centuries in this format. Yadav is targeting ending an IPL season with an average of 40+ for the fourth time in five seasons. His century in the last game was his second in the IPL.
Mitchell Starc, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy are our picks with the ball for KKR. Narine has rightly captured plenty of headlines for his powerful batting displays in the 2024 IPL but he has also taken 14 wickets from his 44 overs bowled. He is so economical that he has bowled his full allocation in each match so far. Starc is the most expensive player in this edition of the IPL and he has 183 T20 career wickets.
For Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya, Piyush Chawla and Jasprit Bumrah are our bowling choices. Skipper Pandya dismissed Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shahbaz Ahmed and Marco Jansen against Sunrisers Hyderabad and he has seven wickets from his last three games. Chawla picked up the wickets of two of the top batters in the tournament in Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen in the last match. As a result, his confidence will be high ahead of this fixture.
The win for Mumbai Indians over Sunrisers Hyderabad was the type of performance that cricket experts had been expecting to see on a regular basis in this campaign but for whatever reason it has not been so. The question now is can Mumbai do the same against KKR at their home of Eden Gardens? We are predicting a close contest but are backing the batting power of KKR to be too strong and for the hosts to win this game on Saturday evening.
