There are 5 franchise teams which take part in LPL out of which 4 teams have changed their names for this season due to change in ownerships.
Lanka Premier League 2021 will have 24 matches from 5th December, 2021 - 23rd December, 2021 with all the teams facing each other in a Round-robin format for the league stage and proceed to play-offs.
For this year’s edition of LPL, the matches will take place in 2 stadiums -
R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo
Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Hambontata.
The round-robin league stage consists of 20 matches.
After the league stage, top 4 teams will proceed towards the eliminator and qualifier stage.
The 1st eliminator match will take place between 3rd and 4th place teams and the winner of this match will play in the 2nd qualifier.
The 1st Qualifier match will take place between 1st and 2nd spot teams and the winner of the match will proceed straight to the LPL 2021 Final match.
The losing team of the 1st qualifier will get another chance to qualify by playing against the winner of the 1st eliminator winner. This match will be the 2nd Qualifier match and the winner of the match will face the 1st qualifying team in the final match of the Lanka Premier League 2021.

Under the captaincy of experienced Sri Lankan all-rounder, Angelo Mathews, Colombo Stars were the semi-finalists of the LPL 2020 edition.
With the universe boss Chris Gayle, Pathum Nissanka, Nuwanidu Fernando, they have a quality batting line-up.
As far as bowling is concerned, there is a good attack of Dushmantha Chameera, Seekkuge Prasanna.

Previously known as Dambulla Viiking, they stood at the 2nd spot on the points table and ended the tournament as semi-finalists.
Sri Lankan T20 skipper, Dasun Shanaka is leading Dambulla Giants. The batting line-up has international players like Afghanistan hitter Najibullah Zadran and Pakistani batsman Sohaib Maqsood.
Sri Lankan wicket keeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella is also part of the Giants squad.
The bowling attack of Giants consists of Imran Tahir, Joshua Little, Marchant de Lange. All three are having good season at the Abu Dhabi T10 league currently and performing quite well.

The explosive batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa will be heading the runner-up team of the previous edition of LPL, Galle Gladiators. He will be tagged with Kusal Mendis at the top-order.
The all-rounders section of this squad is filled with players like Pakistan star all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez, English cricketer Samit Patel and one of the top Sri Lankan all-rounders Isuru Udana, who looks in great form in T10 league. The winner of the LPL 2020 looks stronger this year as well.
The squad definitely consists of match winner players like Faf du Plessis, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Wanindu Hasaranga, Shoaib Malik, Wahab Riaz, Avishka Fernando. Many of these players are currently in good form and will be looking forward to continuing the same form for the LPL 2021 as well.
Hasaranga is becoming a star player day by day. He is making headlines in every series he is going to. He is currently the highest wicket taker in the T10 league and he is currently sitting at the top spot of the T20 ICC rankings for bowlers.
Gurbaz, on the other hand, is in explosive form currently and is capable of taking the whole match on his shoulders.

Previously known as Kandy Tuskers, the team stood at the bottom of the table at the end but with this strong squad they might perform well this time.

Sri Lanka’s homegrown T20 league, Lanka Premier League is back for its 2nd edition which will begin on 5th December, 2021.
The league was created in 2018 by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) but couldn’t start with its 1st season till 2020 due to several reasons. The 1st season of LPL (LPL 2020) gained popularity among the cricketing community due to the participation of many international players.
