Chittagong Vikings Team News & Playing 11

CHV Team News

Robbie Frylinck’s injury is a huge blow for the Chittagong Vikings. The star of their earlier form, he missed the defeat to Rajshahi Kings after being injured against Rangpur. Cameron Delport returned in his place and is likely to continue but that means a different dynamic to the Vikings’ line-up. Nayeem Hasan also came back in last time out, replacing Sunzamul Islam.

CHV Key Players

While the Vikings’ form has faded, Yasir Ali has come good in the last two games. He hit 78 in the defeat to Rangpur Riders and 58 from 38 balls against Rajshahi Kings last time out.

That included a useful partnership with Mohammad Shahzad, who scored 49 from 22 balls – another bright start without yet making a big score for the Afghani opener. He has 94 runs in his last three innings, while he scored 46 last time they played the Comilla Victorians.

Captain Mushfiqur Rahim is second only to Rilee Rossouw in the run-scoring charts, meanwhile. He has hit three half-centuries – including his high score of 75 the last time these two teams played – and has 321 runs from nine innings.

With the ball, in Robbie Frylinck’s absence, Khaled Ahmed took 2-32 last time out to move to the top of their bowling charts with 13 wickets – showing better control against Rajshahi than he had against Rangpur Riders.

Abu Jayed also has 13 for the tournament after following up his 2-35 against the Riders with an excellent 1-24 against Rajshahi Kings. What they need now is one of the other bowlers to start backing them up in the middle overs.

CHV Team Form

Chittagong Vikings’ five-match winning run has ended since the fixtures moved to their ‘home’ pitch – they have lost two from two in Chittagong.

The winning streak was notable for Robbie Frylinck’s performances, including the Super Over win against Khulna Titans – after he hit two sixes in the final over to snatch a tie – that started the run.

Victory in the previous game against Comilla Victorians followed – Mushfiqur Rahim scoring 75 from 41 balls as the Vikings chased 185 to win by four wickets with two balls to spare.

When they faced the Titans again, it was half-centuries from Yasir Ali and Mushfiqur Rahim that led the way, in a score of 214/4 on their way to a 26-run win. Frylinck then hit three sixes in thefinal over, after taking 2-19 to restrict Dhaka Dynamites to 139/9, as the Vikings’ winning streak stretched to four games with a three-wicket win.

After downing Dhaka, they then moved ahead of them in the points table as Mushfiqur continued his good batting form with an unbeaten 64 from 46 balls to help chase 158 against Rajshahi Kings, in a six-wicket win.

The form has stalled since, however. Set 240 to beat Rangpur Riders, Yasir Ali hit 78 from 48 balls but the Vikings finished well short on 167/8. They then finished seven runs short of Rajshahi Kings’ 198/5 last time out, despite another quickfire half-century from Yasir Ali – closing on 191/8.

Comilla Victorians Team News & Playing 11

COM Team News

Having been unchanged for the previous four games, Comilla Victorians’ decision to restore fit-again Evin Lewis to the starting line-up against Khulna Titans paid dividends. Having been out with a hamstring injury, Lewis smashed an unbeaten century to justify his inclusion ahead of Liam Dawson. The other change saw Mohammad Shahid replace Ziaur Rahman to maintain the balance of the side, and – having tried to be consistent during their resurgent run of form – more changes are unlikely.

COM Key Players

After being injured in the previous game against Chittagong Vikings, Evin Lewis roared back into form last time out – the big-hitting West Indian opener hit ten sixes in his 49-ball unbeaten 109 – his third T20 century.

That knock included a 58-run opening partnership with Tamim Iqbal, who has rediscovered his batting touch too. The Bangladeshi opener has scored 73, 25, 34 and 25 in his last four innings after struggling for runs before that.

With the openers firing, there is less pressure down the order but Thisara Perera has already proved he can score big runs against Chittagong Vikings – the Sri Lankan hammered 74 from just 26 balls, and picked up wickets as well in this tournament.

Elsewhere in the bowling attack, Wahab Riaz claimed 3-14 last time out to move to nine wickets in five games, while Shahid Afridi’s 3-27 takes him to 13 wickets in the tournament, complemented by 123 runs with the bat.Mohammad Saifuddin has taken 11 wickets so far, meanwhile, having claimed 16 in last season’s Bangladesh Premier League too.

COM Team Form

Comilla Victorians have charged up the table with four wins from their last five games – a run of form which started with the Sylhet phase of fixtures. They set the tone by bowling Sylhet Sixers out for 68 in the first game – Mahedi Hasan claiming 4-22 – and have not looked back from that eight-wicket win.

Against Khulna Titans next up, Tamim Iqbal then found form with a 42-ball 73 to help chase 182 to win by three wickets in the final over. A blip followed – bowled out for 138 in a 38-run defeat to Rajshahi Kings – but they have won both matches since.

First, they beat then league leaders Dhaka Dynamites by seven runs, as Shamsur Rahman top-scored with 48 from 35 balls in a total of 153/8 and Thisara Perera took 3-14 to restrict the Dynamites to 146/9.

Last time out, Evin Lewis returned to the team in style – hitting 109* from 49 balls against Khulna Titans in a monster total of 237/5. Three wickets apiece for Wahab Riaz and Shahid Afridi disrupted the reply, and the Victorians won by 80 runs.
