Bangladesh are favourites to win
Bangladesh host Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series beginning on May 15 at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. Bangladesh were heavily beaten in both games of their most recent Test series away in South Africa in early April. Sri Lanka lost 2-0 away in India in March. Read on as we preview this opening match. The Test begins at 10:00 local time.
Bangladesh have not won a home Test since February 2020 when they beat the touring Zimbabweans. However, home advantage is big in Test cricket and they will go into this game as favourites.
Sri Lanka are under new management with Mickey Arthur departing and former England coach Chris Silverwood taking over. They will be confident of being competitive in this fixture.

Although there is always a good amount of spin on the final three days in Chittagong, pace bowlers have had plenty of success on this ground in recent Tests. We expect to see a quick wicket which will deteriorate on days 4 and 5.

The home side will definitely be without Mehidy Hasan Miraz who has a finger injury but may return for the second Test of the series. Also missing will be the injured pace bowler Taskin Ahmed. Shakib Al Hasan is expected to replace Hasan in the line-up for this game.
Bangladesh have struggled in Test matches in recent times and, apart from a very surprising win in New Zealand earlier this year, have lost five of their last six games in this format.

Sri Lanka will be without impressive young batter Pathum Nissanka who is injured and Lahiru Thirimanne who is on paternity leave for three months. Although pace bowler, Suranga Lakmal, retired after the tour of India, Sri Lanka still have a good core of experienced players.
Sri Lanka were well beaten by India in their last two Tests but had been picking up some good results in this format prior to that tour.
