This will be Bangladesh’s third Test match of 2023 after playing both Ireland and Afghanistan in one off Tests earlier in the year. The Tigers disappointed in the World Cup in India during October and November so will be determined to put in a strong red ball showing.

With Litton Das, who led the team during the Test in Dhaka against Afghanistan in June, away on paternity leave, the captaincy goes to Najmul Hossain Shanto who has impressed in white ball cricket over the last 12 months. Opener Shahadat Hossain Dipu will be hoping for a first Test cap in this game after playing three T20Is.

ODI skipper, spinner Shakib Al Hasan, is out with a fractured finger and right-arm pace bowler Taskin Ahmed will also be absent with a shoulder injury. In their place, the main bowling threat for the hosts is expected to come from spinners Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
