AUS vs SA 3rd Test Match Prediction & Betting Tips

Australia will take on South Africa at The SCG. The third Test of the three-match series gets underway at 10:30 local time on Wednesday 4th January.

Australia

After winning the opening Test in Brisbane inside two days, Australia were far stronger with both bat and ball during the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. Ashton Agar and Matt Renshaw have been recalled to the Test squad ahead of this final game of the series.

AUS Batting

With his place at the top of the order under-threat and series against India and England to come, David Warner showed that he still has the appetite for Test cricket with a double-century at the MCG. Alex Carey also hit a century with 50s for Cameron Green, Steve Smith and Travis Head. Australia’s batting is in excellent form.

AUS Bowling

Although Australia’s bowlers will come up against much stronger batting line-ups later this year, they were still impressive in dismissing South Africa for 189 and 204 in Melbourne. Nathan Lyon took 3-58 in the second innings and we expect him to be a threat throughout at the SCG, his home ground, in this Test.

AUS Form

Australia continue to be particularly strong in Tests at home. They have failed to win only one of their last seven games in this format.

South Africa

After beginning 2022 with a Test series win over India and drawing a series in New Zealand, there were hopes that South Africa were beginning a new era of successful Test cricket. However, they were well beaten in England and have not been competitive at all with the bat so far in this series.

SA Batting

Scoring runs continues to be South Africa’s main problem with their batters regularly not posting enough runs to give their strong bowling attack something to defend. After seven innings without making 200, they did make 204 in the second innings in Melbourne and they must make at least that score in the first innings at the SCG.

SA Bowling

Kagiso Rabada was the only South African bowler to go at more than five runs per over at the MCG but did still pick up two wickets. Once again, Anrich Nortje was the pick of the visitors’ bowlers although we expert spinner Keshav Maharaj to have a bigger role to play here in Sydney.

SA Form

With their batters lacking confidence, it was no surprise to see South Africa lose their fourth Test in a row in Melbourne.

AUS vs SA, Sydney Cricket Ground Pitch Report

The match will be played at The Sydney Cricket Ground. There will be more spin on offer at this venue than the two previous matches but overall it will be another strong batting wicket.
