Adelaide Strikers Women are favourites to win
Adelaide Strikers Women will take on Sydney Sixers Women at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay. Match 3 of the 2022 WBBL will get underway at 15:40 local time on Saturday, October 15th.
The Strikers finished in fourth place during the group stage of the 2021 WBBL but went on a winning run during the knockout playoff stages before losing in the final to the Perth Scorchers. They have recruited well ahead of this campaign and will be looking to go one step further than in 2021.
Katie Mack hit five half-centuries across the tournament last year and finished in second place on the tournament highest run scorer list. This year, the Strikers have added batting firepower with South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt and retired West Indian Deandra Dottin.
25 year old leg-spinner Amanda Jade Wellington finished as the top wicket taker in the competition during the 2021 WBBL. She took 23 wickets in total including figures of 5-8, the best figures ever seen in a WBBL fixture, against Brisbane Heat.
Although they lost the final by 12 runs, the Strikers won seven of their previous nine fixtures.
The Sixers got off to a winning start in the 2022 WBBL when they beat Brisbane Heat by four wickets in Match 1 in Mackay on Thursday evening. However, they will be wary that last year they won their opening two matches before finishing bottom of the table.
Australia international Ellyse Perry top scored for the Sixers on Thursday with 55 runs from 48 balls. She hit seven fours in her innings and also received the Player of the Match Award. All-rounder Erin Burns also scored a half-century for the Sixers in the win over Brisbane Heat.
Six bowlers were used by Sydney Sixers in Match 1 with only off-spinner Ashleigh Gardner going wicketless. Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Cheatle and Angelina Genford all dismissed one batter each with Ellyse Perry taking 2-27 and Maitlan Brown taking 3-20.
The Sixers lost all of their last six games in the 2021 WBBL so Thursday’s win was crucial for the side.
The match will be played at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay. Any score over 150 will be hard to chase down on this pitch. We expect the quicker bowlers to be the most threatening on this wicket.
