Sydney Sixers opened their account in the women’s big bash league with a thumping win over Brisbane Heat Women. Chasing a target of 142, Sydney Sixers reached home with four wickets to spare, courtesy of twin half-centuries from Elyse Perry and Erin Burns.
Meanwhile, Adelaide Strikers had a decent run in the previous edition of the tournament as they made it to the final. However, they failed to win the title after losing to Perth Scorchers women in the final. Both teams are good on paper and we should be in for a cracking game.
We are not expecting a batting paradise as the wickets in women’s big bash over the years have been very competitive to make the tournament more spectator appeasing. However, bowlers need to work hard and bowl right lines to get the better of the batsman. Once set, plenty of runs are to be taken as the ball will not do much after the first couple of overs.
It will be a clear day with temperatures ranging between 21 and 27 degrees. The conditions will be quite friendly for the players.

She is one of the most destructive batters going around in world cricket. Wolvaardt carries a tremendous amount of experience. She is perfectly suited to this format of the game and will be keen to start the tournament with a big knock.
Deandra Dottin is a risky but valuable pick. She is someone who can score a century in T20s. Her strike rate is always on the higher side which means that she only needs to play 30-40 balls to make an impact. Having retired from international cricket, Dottin will like to make an impact in the WBBL.
Elyse Perry is one of the greats of Australian cricket. While she has slightly fallen out of favour from the Australian side, especially in T20Is, she still remains one of the top players in the world. Perry scored a wonderful 55 against the Brisbane Heat women and also took two wickets.
The Australian veteran is one of the best players you can have in the team. She bats in the top order and often bowls her full quota of overs. There is nothing more you can expect from a player. Yes, she will not perform in every game but she is still one of the more consistent players going around.
Amanda Wellington has been shining bright in international cricket. She is now keen to make an impact in franchise tournaments as well. It’s not like she has not made a name for herself in T20 leagues. In fact, she was the highest wicket-taker of the WBBL 2021 with 23 wickets. Her stature as a player has grown in the last few months so she will be keen to make a bigger impact.
