Date | 16th December 2022 |
Time | 11:35 PM IST, 6:05 AM GMT 5:05 PM LOCAL |
Venue | Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne |
Melbourne Stars started the tournament with a defeat against Sydney Thunder. It was a close game where batters from both teams struggled. Stars could only manage 122-8 in their 20 overs before the bowlers made Thunder struggle for every run. Thunder were left reeling at 115-9 in 19.2 overs but a six by Gurinder Sandhu helped Thunder win the game.
Meanwhile, this will be the first game for Hobart Hurricanes. Hurricanes reached the playoffs last year but we're defeated by Adelaide Strikers in the Eliminator. With players like D Arcy Short, Matthew Wade, Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, and Ben McDermott, they have a strong team at disposal.
The wicket should be good for cricket. There might be some help on offer for the pacers early on, but that should not last long given the nature of the game. Big boundaries will help the spinners come into play as well.
It will be a cloudy day with a 10 per cent chance of rain. The temperature will range between 19 and 9 degrees.

Batters | Hilton Cartwright, Nick Larkin, Tim David |
All-rounders | Marcus Stoinis (VC), Shadab Khan, D Arcy Short |
Bowlers | Trent Boult, Adam Zampa, Rilee Meredith |
Marcus Stoinis didn't get going in the first match as he was dismissed for a first-ball duck. However, he still remains a massive player in the team and can be expected to have a good game against the Hurricanes.
Matthew Wade has had a good year with the bat for Australia and he will be looking to start the Big Bash League with a big knock against the Stars.
Ben McDermott is another big-hitting batter in the Hurricanes team. A 30-ball stay for McDermott can yield a big score for him given his strike rate. He is also one of the top players to watch in the match.
Trent Boult had a brilliant game against Thunder and picked two wickets in the first over to bring Stars back in the game. Boult with the new ball will be a threat again.
Adam Zampa also took a couple of wickets for the Stars. Zampa is a very smart Bowler and is very tough to score off. On large boundaries, he is always a wicket-taker.
